So this has been growing on all the exposed areas of my mini complete.
What is this, I just wipe it off with a Q Tip.


Yes its a mess, it needs heavy maintenance session to remove the hair algae and add more plants. And pipe clean the inlet etc

Think you might have answered your question Gill might need w/c and clean up. Is that lid always on?

Yeah the lid is always on, it grows on the rim of the sump aswell. Guess its some form of creep, like salt creep.

Just never seen it grow this thick before. Could it be excess minerals. As I add mineral blocks for the Gammarus and snails health. And any shrimp that are in there.

@dw1305 any ideas

Hi all, Salts, it might depend what it says the mineral block contains. It doesn't look like hard water scale (CaCO3), but it might be calcium sulphate (CaSO4·2H2O).

Yes they are heavy in Calcium, so that makes sense.
