It seems that the branded plants (Tropica/AquaFleur) are very hard to get hold of now unless you want the common varieties or 6 pots.

What online shops don't have these limitations?

Could have sworn I'd looked there but seems not, cheers for pointing out the obvious :)

None; other than the green machine. Even non branded plants are getting hard to find.
Planted Box are working on getting the orders lower but I don't know how that's going, probably worth contacting them. It's a real shame because it means most people either don't want or can't afford or find use for 6 pots of plants and it rapidly becomes far more expensive than it needs to be, limits creativity and also means that people who would join the hobby don't, and people who want to rescape smaller tanks leave the hobby through difficulties in getting the right amounts of plants. Sometimes I think the hobby was in a better way 4 years ago when I started. :(

i've looked at TGM but it's all so expensive. is it worth paying so much more? are the plants a lot bigger and better quality than plants alive for instance?

cheers :D

The qualities better, plants alive are pretty appauling when ever I've used them. I'd say it's only worth the money when it's buying plants that an alternative or the same plant isn't available from Aquafluer. Bigger isn't always better. I've received tiny rotalla green that's still in it's emergent form from TGM that has done much (i)much(i) better than a huge already grown on Rotalla green from the same place, sometimes when a plant starts to adapt and it weakens the plant by jumping about between systems.
It's personal choice really, there are few options left open for the more money conscious out there these days. The tropica is it worth it arguement will rage on until AF drops the 6 pots minimum order thing that has to be passed on to the customers and forces tropica to drop it's prices to compete.

Have companies just found it isn't profitable to sell Tropica et-al then? AE used to be THE place to buy from but they seem to do mostly AF plants now, and a limited range at that. TGM prices are higher than AE used to be though I haven't bought plants for over a year now.

I always toyed with the redundancy concept of starting up a Tropica specialist online store, but maybe I should make some other plans in case that day ever comes!
