I set up a barrel last summer. It is lined, and has pebbles/rocks and a few bricks in it which pots sat on (in wobbly fashion). A little floating solar fountain provides movement. Things grew ok, lily didn’t do much, water mint went everywhere and the sedge-y stuff grew well, but it’s got really messy so in a fit of enthusiasm I’ve just taken everything out 😬
There will be a bit of soil in the bottom from some sunken pots (pots now taken out) and it’s under a big apple tree so likely some leaves too.
I’ve got 4 pots with a mix of marginal stuff in them; not planning on putting them all back to make more space.

Questions:
- what to do with the lily? Repot? Chuck some more soil in the bottom, add lily and see what it does? I’ve got half a bag of pond ‘compost’
- likewise small grasses - attempt to push in among pebbles and cross fingers?
