I loved my old one as it felt quite powerful and had lots of room for media only problemwas the prime button broke and I had to do it with my mouth which tasted different...
David at fistafiltration is a great guy to deal with and a very good tank builder and I recommend him highly he is a sponsor and member of a reefing forum i am a regular on and I don't think you will be disappointed with the build quality :)
For a pair of clowns I'd say you'll be fine with around 60 litre mark I've kept a couple of different nano reef aquariums one of 30 litres and one of 48 and they were both awesome although I recently had to sell up and will eventually be going back to tropicals for a while
Defiantly check out...
This is cassie my little staffie she is my baby and my best friend :) unfortunately she had to have a leg amputated due to a car accident :( but she gets around fine now and answers to hop along!

Just read your thread mate really informative and a good read, I think that some of the parts where you do big summaries and go into detail on various things should be taken out and put in the tutorial section I know that me and many other new comes would find this really useful and it would get...
I was going to use sand of I went for cory's because its a small tank so I would more than likely stock Pygmy cory and I won't be able to see them against a dark substrate. If I use ADA it'll be on its own if I use soil it'll be the tropica plant solid capped with sand using your gravel tody...
Ive done loads of reading up on DIY LED for my reef tank and I've got all the bits to do it and nine times out of ten its actually cheaper to buy and off the shelf unit when it comes to LEDs the components used are not cheap and buy the time you've bought them you won't be far off shop prices...
Ill either be adding The ADA substrate or tropica plant substrate capped with sand if I decide I want cory's in the tank. I'm finding it hard to get my heat around the relationship between plants lighting co2 and ferts... It is possible to essentially have a high tech tank but limit the...
Brilliant thanks for the advise tim it's a shame that you didn't have a journal for the tank it would have been a good read I check the others in your signature out last night and they look fantastic too
Thanks troi I'm just reading up on the links you gave me, am I right in thinking that you has a low tech tank that still used co2 injection? If so how did you find this? And what kind of flow do you go for?
Thanks for the reply troi, budget isn't that low so I can get any substrate I want I just didn't want to go out buy something then find out its not that good after all and then change it. I've read lots of your articles on using a dirt substrate and while I like the idea of the plants getting...
Hi guys and girls I'd just like to say a quick thank you to everyone who has helped me up until now on either threads that I've made of commented on its all much appreciated. I've got so many questions regarding planted tanks that instead of making lots of threads on the different sections I...
Thanks for the tips buddy that's good to know I was under the impression that low light and co2 where a bad mix, I steadily getting there but I have got so much to learn still about plants ect I need to pick my substrate next as well as looking more into co2
Thanks for all the helpful replies its much appreciated. Picked up the tank today after work but ill have to wait till payday to get my plants and substrate which is another thread ill have to make soon. Thanks for the plant list ill look into them, I'm just compiling a list of appropriate...
Thanks guys much appreciated just thought I'd check before I pick one up only to find its not much kop I've got a lot to learn when it comes to growing plants
Also should I put my plants and substrate in while I fishlessly cycle my filter or is the ammonia harmful to the plants
I'd really appreciate your comments :)
Morning people, I've decided to get myself a juwel rio 180 to have a go at my first hi tech planted tank but its going to take me a while to get all the bits together due to being on a budget. So in the mean time I'm going to get myself a juwel rekord 700 (70 litres) and save in the back round...
You'd be able to do it with a Stanley knife really easily mate and then just scrape of the silicon with the blade but I didn't know If it was structurally important to the tank someone told me it was a brace to add strength buti don't see how it does anything. It's not an ADA tank but it still...
Tank looks good dave I was thinking of getting a clear seal aquarium as I just want a glass box but not so keen on the prices of ADA have you looked into of its safe to remove the glass ledge? That's the only thing holding me back right now
I think they are professionally as actually building tanks although it seems to be the one red neck guy that actually does anything, but the seem to know nothing about actually looking after the stock. It's a typical American cheese fest.. But I still watched all of them haha
I used to have a cherry tank any cichlid would see them as a yummy treat but cherrys have the fact that they are prolific breeders on their side so might've able to sustain a small population
My first aquarium I condemned 4 gold fish to death in a 28 litre tank ( thanks P@H ) after that I turned to the Internet for answers as I felt bad about it and the only I've only lost 3 fish since and one was my beloved betta 'blue' who died of old age :)
Your tanks really nice, I'm interested to see how you get on with going hi tech for the first time as I'm thinking of doing similar myself over the summer period keep it up and don't forget to update your journal :)
Thanks for taking the time to write such a detailed reply its much appreciated and sorry for hijacking your thread a little bit too, I see what you mean about paying for the equipment and then getting rid of most of it. I was also taking into consideration cost as the ADA tanks can get quite...
Thanks for the reply, £50 is a good price to pay I need to read more into LEDs for planted tanks coming from keeping a reef tank it's hard to get the idea that LEDs under 3W are naff, obviously they are not for growing plants and its a really slick looking unit much nicer than some on the market :)
I'm currently in the planning stages of a new freshwater tank having sold up about a 18 months ago now to try my hand at saltwater. And I'm looking at something around 60-100 litres in size and I can't decide between a plain glass tank then adding my own components or a jewel tank and taking the...
Your tanks really nice the ADA tanks look so sweet it's a shame about the price tag once you start looking into the bigger ones! Have you settled on the snow ball shrimp for he tank or have you not decided yet?
Wow that tank is awesome I'm thinking of setting up a similar sized tank soon to get me back into fresh water tanks, how do you find your LED unit? What made you choose this unit over say TMC Aquarays?
Hi ady I used easy carbo on my old set up along with micro and macro fertilisers from aquarium plant food. I think with this kind of tank my best bet is something similar but with a better substrate last time I just used silica sand. And then look into upgrading in the future when I have space...
Thanks for the reply and the advise, the main reason I was going for the cheaper tanks was I have a reef tank with the same look and they will be sat next to each other so I thought it would look a little better. I'm trying to decide between hi tech and low tech but due to the fact I won't have...
In a low light aquarium, I'm looking at several tanks which all have around 36W over 90-100 litres can you still does fertilisers and have a nutritious substrate? I'm quite interested in Co2 but I'm not sure if this is an option at the tank needs to sit on a chest of draws so needs an internal...
Hi thanks for the reply, last time I kept tropicals I had a fluval Roma 125 which was a nice tank but the reason I wanted that tank was I have a similar style nano reef tank and I'm quite fussy with things looking 'right' I've not made up my mind yet though just looking to gain some information...
Evening guys and girls, I was wondering if some of you fine folks might be able to help me out? I'm planning on getting back into keeping tropical fish and plants and need some advise on picking my aquarium, I'm thinking of getting an interpet fishpod 120 Interpet Fish Pod Aquarium 120 but I'm...
Wow these tanks are both beautiful I really like ferns in the filters like everyone else and the colours of the shrimp are great If I had to pick one it would be the left for me looking to get back into tropical from marine and quite interested in the freshwater shrimp
Wow I've read loads of your threads offer the last couple of weeks both here and on other US sites and I love the riparium it's so natural looking and I'd love one but I don't think anyone over here supplies the proper floating islands and baskets which is a shame. Am I right in thinking that...
Hi just thought Id post a quick hello, names Josh from portsmouth currently in the process of doing lots of research for my next tank a planted nano. I've kept tropical before with easy to keep species such as java fern and anubias in my old 125L fluval roma then moved onto marine and now I've...
