It was going so well.... Cherry Shrimp die off

Very rarely is it anything in the tap water unless its from a bore hole or something. That product provides trace elements (micro nutrients) to the plants. As long as its not overdosed itll be fine. It contains nutrients such as iron, manganese, zinc, boron, copper (very small amounts so dont...

It was going so well.... Cherry Shrimp die off

Sorry to hear that. If they're still dieing I'd be doing water changes every few days just in case it is water quality.

It was going so well.... Cherry Shrimp die off

If water quality is fine (ammonia, nitrite, copper etc) then it leaves chemical contamination (as suggested above with sprays etc), predation or disease. I'm not sure how disease could be identified or treated but I was surprised how many different types of disease shrimp can get after listening...

    Predatory amano shrimp

Woken up to find 2 more barely alive. Ive got to try save the remaining rasbora. Alto I think youre right. In the fishkeeping scene there must be some slight amano hybrids around now. Dont really want them in the tank anymore. Good job I have a 18x12x12 back at my folks somewhere:banghead...

    Predatory amano shrimp

I have literally just experienced this. My tank (125L) has had only had 10 Amano shrimp for 2 months but today I managed to pick up 8 Mosquito Rasbora. I acclimatised them for 3 hours before adding them to the tank. I turned the lights off for an hour to let them settle then turned it on. Fish...

Bad tank mates for Amano shrimp

I don't see my Chili Rasbora being a threat anytime soon.

    Sulawesi Cardinal Shrimp

Well done Viktor. If I were a shrimp, it would a very difficult choice between your tank or Paulo's. Both are stunning.

    Iodine for shedding?

Is it possible that during a molt (when shrimps are vulnerable because they are "soft" a while afterward) they are being attacked?
  11. Fred Dulley

    amano or cherry

    Seconds that!

    Iodine for shedding?

Just leave them to it. Ample amounts of iodine in tap water so long as you do weekly water changes. I don't see full sheds because most likely a fish or a group of shrimp have dragged off with it.

    Shrimp horror stories

I had a similar experience with a large blue crayfish, only 5" though. It was at work and I underestimated it's force, so it broke out of my grip on the net and scuttled around the tank cover glass waving his pincers around. Keep calm and act accordingly lol. Catching a Boxer shrimp (marine) is...

    Dead shrimp or shed shell?

Dead Amano shrimp tend to be pink, whereas the exoskeleton is just white.

What critters do you have in your tank(s)?

Thanks for the heads up. I read on Planet Inverts the conditions needed to keep them. Fortunatly my tap water is spot on for them. Hard water and a ph of no less than 7.0. Most hobbyists set their Sulawesi tanks with a ph oh 8.0. Also the temperature should be atleast 78F. They have a tank to...

What critters do you have in your tank(s)?

On tuesday I will be picking up a few Harlequin Shrimp Caridina cf. spongicola. Probably going to cost £6-8 each. Will be also picked up 10 Red Cherry shrimp. Currently, I only keep Amanos, MTS and Nerites.

    Nerite snails

Edit: commented on picture that was uploaded ages ago. My mistake.

    All hail the nerite snail

I'm still glad I can get them at the LFS i work at for £1.99

    Snails!

Nerites are really cool. I myself have never experienced the hard eggs, but at the LFS I used to work at I saw the eggs. I have 2 Thick Striped Zebras. Those Apple Snails look lovely.
