Saintly's 120cm' Fraggle rock' THE BIG STRIP

Re: Saintly's 120cm' Fraggle rock' let battle commence My apologies if you have already mentioned this Mark, however.... Because of the lower plant biomass, are you having to do larger/more frequent water changes in order to reduce the undetectable ammonia and organic waste that would...

    Vision 180- Nature style Riverbank

Re: Nicks Vission 180. New Set-up We don't connect CO2 to the powerheads. Just use them to increase water movement around the tank. In doing so CO2 is better distributed which benefits the plants. Surface agitation does drive of CO2 so we dont want to "break" the surface as it were. Ripples are...

    Vision 180- Nature style Riverbank

Re: Nicks Vission 180. New Set-up Nitrates and phosphates do exist that way but in a high light tank they are used up very quickly. Therefore you need to dose them yourself. In a low light tank you could depend on the N+P being produced biologically. The powerhead aids CO2 diffusion but also in...

    Vision 180- Nature style Riverbank

Re: Nicks Vission 180. New Set-up DIY wont cut it on this size tank I'm afraid. Especially if you up the stock lighting (2x36W can grow any plant with good CO2+nutrients. Hence you dont need another light unit). CO2 will be unstable and probably too low, therefore algae :( The king british...

    Celestial's Planted Tank - Update

Re: Celestial's Planted Tank - New Pics Added Juwel Korall?? First I've seen this tank. How is the filter? Can you take it out or is it stuck in there. Looks like the same design as they are putting in their upcoming nano. Nice tank btw.

    My latest aquarium

Hhmm, well, no tank should ever have an unpleasant smell. I've only ever kept a open top 25litre tank. That was in the same room as a 70litre with a hood and a 55litre with a hood. I didn't notice a smell.

    My first tank "Learning curve"

If anything you have too much light in terms of your nutrient and carbon dosing (therefore step up the carbon and nutrients). The Easycarbo might be enough but soon it will be easy to tell. Tropica Plant Nutrition+ contains all the micro and macro nutrients the plants need. Start with that and...

Makes a lot of money. 9 times out of 10, the customers choose the "most pretty" plant, which are usually the non-aquatic plants. The customer simply "stock back up" when the plants eventually die. Just like what Sam said.

    45cm Shrimp tank

Sadly I just found a Cherry shrimp body. It was in two parts, the head and then the rest of the body. I had a suspicion it was a body and not a shedded exoskeleton because the eyes were apparent as well as there being "meat" inside the exoskeleton. Not hollow. :( Hopefully that will be the only one.

Well, I went ahead and bought 9 Cherry shrimp a few weeks ago (one jumped out the bag when the staff were introducing the shrimp, doh!). They've been great, growing very fast and are the best reds ever. Personally I can only see females. I went into work today and I was suprised to see more...

    45cm Shrimp tank

I've just been observing the tank close up and I've spotted some tiny, clear fry. Must be Galaxy fry, because before the re-scape I had some Galaxies in there. Well, I suppose it's good news that Galaxies can breed in hard, alkaline water.

    UG - Utricularia graminifolia

It's interesting that UG doesn’t favour nutrient rich water/conditions. The way I look at it, is that it's almost exactly the same as carnivorous plants that you would have in a vivarium. You use fruit flies to feed the plants and any use of fertilisers actually kills them.
