Any Betta breeders in the UK?

Hi all, Does anyone know of any reputable Betta breeders/stockists in the UK (preferably near Wales)? I'm looking for a plakat male Betta for my 10gallon but dont fancy buying from a LFS or online tbh. Thanks in advance!

    Lump on Rasbora head

Hi, Thanks for the reply. I have 6 that are happily swimming together....more than ever now that I have trimmed my stem plants. Fingers crossed they'll be ok. I've been dosing an anti-bacterial but not the anti-parasite because it contains copper and would kill my nerite snails. I can...

    Lump on Rasbora head

Morning guys, I picked up 8 Mosquito/Dwarf Rasbora (they were in same tank at LFS) on Saturday. Drip acclimatised for 1.5 hours. Tank is near 4 months old and heavily planted with external filter. Temp 26degC. All but 1 were happily swimming around. I kept an eye on it but decided to leave him...

    Witnessing a Natural Death???

No it doesn't. It doesn't prove that nitrate was the problem at all. I agree that at some point a toxicity level will be reached and studies have been done before. Fish (dont remember the species) showed ill signs at 400ppm or near about. Shrimp 120ppm. 1. Nitrate test kits are utter rubbish...

    Osmotic Shock

Seeing as a lot of us came from TFF is it ok for me to post this? Knowledge is power. http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?/to ... p__1692388

    Wild P. scalare 'Rio Nanay'

Lovely colours. Could the colour improvement also be due to the fact that they are more settled in now? Or did you notice a change considerably when the water was more tanned?

    pets at home "quiz"

I think this is fine to do. Most folks here would agree that it's more polite to approach the customer when the shop assisstant has left them for a moment. If it was very bad advice then I'd be tempted to jump in regardless.

    Stocking levels

I think a proportion of aquascaped tanks will only have fish in temporarily for that final shot. Forgot about that.

    pets at home "quiz"

Aye, very annoying. Tell them/the manager that it's good to see some staff caring but they are going over the top and should do some of their own reading on the web. Books are often filled with out-dated info. Seeing LFS' giving out wrong, lazy, non-caring info is bad but it's equally annoying...

    Stocking levels

Having a good plant biomass and large filtration will certainly allow you to keep more fish than perhaps a normal tank. The inch per gallon rule is a little tight though in my opinion. I mean come on, 8 Neons in a 72litre, that's too too cautious. I think it's good for beginners because it...

Sick German Blue Ram - Help Urgently Needed

Sounds good to me. Ah, you're probably fine then. The guys at Wharf Aquatics are brilliant.

Sick German Blue Ram - Help Urgently Needed

I agree about the aggression towards her from the male. Stress not good. The white mark on her head looks like a bite. Best thing to do is keep water clean and try prevent an infection. Not that it applies here but with GBRs, it's best to start on the right foot, and by that I mean getting them...

"Amazon Aquatics" or "the last trading post"

Darrel, thanks for bringing this to my attention. I hadn't a clue that I was so close to Amazon Aquatics. :D Only about 40mins drive. The Indostomus have caught my eye.

    Pearl Gouramis and Amano shrimps

I wouldn't have thought so. Pearls tend to stay mid/top of the aquarium anyway. They also don't have very big mouths. Never had any problems with them at the LFS. So peaceful.

Fish jumping and open topped tanks

I've seen that oldwhitewood has kept Rummy nose Tetra with success in an open-top tank. I'd give it a go. I see Rummy nose Tetras usually shoaling in the lower quartile of tanks.

    Recomendations on snail munching fish??

If loaches stop eating snails then starve them for a few days and they usually go back to eating snails. Think about it from the loaches point of view, why should I go out looking for snails when a nice person makes me fat with flake food and bloodworm.

    Recomendations on snail munching fish??

I added 4 Amano shrimps to my 125litre tank with the 2 Yo-yo Loaches in, and I see some shrimp occasionally. It was a sort of test to see if it worked. It was 2 females and 2 males I added. One of the females is HUGE! Even though I carried out the test, I haven't really been able to draw a...

    My "wild" type angels

They look fantastic, Dan! I agree with Tom, they look far better than the normal "scalare" we see in the shops these days.

    Discus FRY!

Wow, that's really good news. Breeding Discus in hard water, that's got to be a record!

    Zebra danios

Should look good George. Nice colours and they should definitely provide movement just below the surface. The only thing i'll add is that Ive heard some say, a tank with too many shoals can look a bit odd.

The most unusual fish that works in a planted tank...

It would be a smallish planted tank, 15gallon or so and I'd have a true Leaf fish.
