Yes, Co2 gas concentration may well affect fish!
You can run 24/7 put you will need to have gas exchange from a filter outlet of some sort, or a small air pump.
Best purchase a Co2 drop checker....although this has a lag time for the actual reading.
Hi @Polly
Here is another option....this might be more suited for your needs, this company are well known for making Brine Shrimp Kits!
Its not that cheap when you add P/P......You can make purchase Citric Acid/Bicarb in large quantities from Amazon.
Hi Polly
You don't really need Co2 for certain plants species but it helps to bring out the best in all plants!
The exhausted mixture can either be a liquid or liquid and crystals depending on the mixture ratios.
You get similar liquid remnants in Bio Sets from JBL etc!
It doesn't go mouldy as...
Hi @Polly
The journals could be of interest.

I have been using the Citric Acid/Bicarbonate Soda Cylinders for a few years now...not any major...
It could be tricky....to regulate the Co2 into either or both inline diffusers!
You could add two cheap needle valves to the two lines.....that might work.
Could do.....fluctuating Co2 doesn't help run a stable aquarium!
My opinion is too much light....poor maintenance, dirty filters, and poor plant health.
The smaller the bubbles the better.......options would be to use a Neo/Twinstar or a Dennerle Diffuser!
Or an In-line diffuser that attaches to the filter tubing, as Mat H stated.
Okay @Franks
I have a JBL Reg up and running at the moment!
Here are a few images...
The first one has no hole beside the connecting point!
In the second Image, there is a hole near the front of the regulator!
The third Image is where you adjust the working pressure!
hoggie
Hi
That regulator is not compatible for use with aerosol-type cans!
To adjust the working pressure remove the black plastic cover situated on the front of the regulator, and use a Allen Key to move the dial towards 2.5 Bar!
The solenoid must be switched on and the needle valve open!
hoggie
Hi
Just stick to a Green Drop Checker, you are in Danger Of Gassing your fish!
You can grow plants fine with the above coloured checker.
As Tigertim stated, lighting and fertilizers will increase growth.
Add some boiling water to the cylinder to soften up the depleted Citric Acid/Bic Soda mixture.
Do this in the sink and leave it for a while, the body of the cylinder will get very hot so be careful.
Use a long dowel....to break it up!
hoggie
Not small then!
Maybe someone who has a similar size aquarium can give you some reasonable guidelines on the bubble rate!
I have a 35 litre and I have a bubble rate of 2 to 3 per second....24/7 yours would approximately be 3 times that.
Hi
Welcome to the UKaps!
How long is the Co2 running before lights come on?
If your Drop Checker is Green I would be happy with that, as you have inhabitants going for that 1 point drop could stress the fish.
hoggie
Needs to be re-charged now, when at the yellow marker!
Tip for you..... add some boiling water to the cylinder to soften up the depleted Citric Acid/Bic Soda mixture.
Do this in the sink and leave it for a while, the body of the cylinder will get very hot so be careful.

The first image shows a good target color for the checker, lime green. The second image shows an example of what it looks like when there is too much CO2:
Too much below!
Hi
Not really, George Farmer does a video on setting up a Co2 system and regulator using a fire extinguisher!
Most members on here use them with no issues.
hoggie
Hi
Just stick with the in-tank diffuser for this Co2 Set-up!
Trying to install and run a In Line Diffuser will cause you all sorts of problems when your mix starts getting exhausted!
hoggie
Dear Members
When asking for assistance.
Please give as much information on your Co2 set-ups, as possible.
The regulator is attached to the cylinder if possible and switched on.
Clear images or Videos if possible!
The regulator make/type.
The diffuser type.
Cheers hoggie
Good stuff!
If you add a check valve just before the in-line diffuser this will help stop water running into the Co2 tubing plus it helps to keep the pressure up in the in-line diffuser!
Yes, use diluted washing up liquid!
What diffuser are you using?
Does the working pressure dial move?
What you could try is, increase the working pressure to 3 bar!
Then open the needle valve till you have a good stream of bubbles in the counter then reduce to the required bubble rate!
hoggie
Hi
The JBL probably needs about 2 bar of constant pressure!
As its a Citric Acid Mix this wont be stable enough as its in a reaction with the Bicarbonate of Soda!
Plus the pressure will fall off as the reaction lessens.
Hi
Thanks for the input guys!
Ive ordered some Co2 Art hose....then I will add a small piece of silicone for the acrylic/glass diffusers!
I didn't want to do this....as I wanted one continuous piece of soft flex hose but couldn't source grey in the ADA set, so beggars cant be choosers...
I purchased a length of Dennerle Crystal Line CO2 Hose Black , in September. I thought this would be similar too the green soft flex stuff.
Nope stiff.....:(
Tried using it keeps splitting on the nipple of the bubble counter.....must be old stock!
Can anyone recommend some Co2 soft flex...
Hi
You don't put water inside the diffuser!
That diffuser was probably on a timer and had been switched off..... and water has seeped into the chamber!
Best if you soak the new diffuser in water for a few hours this will help to let the Co2 out!
Used one in this journal....you can always keep it as a backup if you run out of Fire extinguisher/cylinder Co2!

hoggie
Hi
You mean the Bubble Counter!
Drop Checker goes in the aquarium to monitor Co2 levels;)
Those plastic check valves are not much good...they tend to fail.
Try moving the Check Valve just above the Bubble counter for the time being.
Purchase a couple of better quality valves like below.
hoggie
Hi
You don't say what size the cylinders you have used up?
If the working pressure needle is pulsating or moving slightly up and down you have a leak in the Co2 tubing line.
Need a U bend!
Available in glass also.
