Incorporating breeding caves for Apistos in to hardscape

I've kept apisto's in planted tanks with out making them a home. They just seem to of made one themselves, just whack in a bit of rock some twigs and wood,... Plenty of moss and leaf litter. They'll sort it them selfs. :)

    Ideas for a Betta scape?

I'm a fan of watersprite in betta tanks. Keep the plants low tech because you really do need minimal flow for this fish to be happy. If you are going that fancy aswell with the fish I'd pick your wood very very carefully or spend time sanding any snagging bits and pointy edges. I've always...

A challenge: break these 3 aquascaping rules with a great tank

I need to work this out a bit more, I'm sure what your explains is simple I just not sure i get the dots I understand they are focal points is what your saying but why?? What rocks are neutral?

    Is it THAT much ?
  12. nayr88

    What rocks are neutral?

Nice :) Dragon stone is really reeeeaaally nice, you an get some air size chunks of it too, and it's easy to manipulate and break bits of to get nice shapes.
  13. nayr88

    What rocks are neutral?

I've got a feeling dragon stone is ok. Will you be remineralising the RO or cutting with tap water?

    Keeping the stems down

Ahh sorry Im guilty of being a bit of a skim reader. So long at your dosing EI I think Yourll be fine burying the clay pots :) Get a journal on the go too mate!
  15. nayr88

    Keeping the stems down

You could use the pots I guess and bury them, but you may aswel bury them in then black pots they come in if your going to do that. Having car litter I guess your dosing your water column well so should be ok.
  16. nayr88

    Keeping the stems down

I think adding any pots and sponge will take away from the aesthetics of the tank, lead weights are ok guess as far as looks as once on the stem and buried there not visible. Only beef might be water chemistry so someone else can chime in on that one. Also new growth may be out side of the lead...

Aquascaping a tall Fluval Edge video

Brilliant George, ive always liked the look the smaller edge, they just neede that little bit more. Having seen the lights in person are you confident it'll grow most plants? With the addition of co2 and ei it looks like it would, shame about the filter just slacking a little. Great video mate

Let's talk: creating my next tank

Cheers for the input guys, Plain is really smart looking but Im fourth go with some aqua soil because it gives me a little margin for error. Thats a shame about the arc spyder, surely they tested it before building thousands? Realised the drooping lid and the pink light. I had a 11w arc pod...

Let's talk: creating my next tank

Quite tempted by an Arcadia 60l, nice shape at 600x300x360h, comes with the new eclipse light that's 24w and is a plant pro bulb, also come with heater and 700lph filter. I'll sell the filter and heater and re use my fluvial 305 and inline heater will just get a spray bar kit for the filter. Im...

Let's talk: creating my next tank

Whoa whoa whoa Haha Can anyone recommend a good active shrimp forum? I was thinking about using plain sand? But just to give that margin for error with my dosing, im going to use either Colombo flora base or another aquasoil.

Soooo... I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this so any mods feel free to move it about :) The idea of this thread is to get some input from you guys on my next tank. I've got multiple nano's an just so many tanks and I really want to cut them all down to one. Something planted...

    In over my head

Just a quick one, Are you using EI or tpn or some kind of liquid ferts? I'm not sure if I misread this but I'm sure having only foam in youer filters is not a good idea, someone else will have to jump in on that one though, sorry.
  26. nayr88

    In over my head

I like it a lot :) Your onto a winner and are in no way over your head, it can seem like that at times but don't worry yourself too much, I'd just leave hardscape as it is and focus on creating a nice healthy planted jungle, plenty of crypts swords and stems will add the different textures and...

    Inspirational wood-dominated aquascapes

    Creating a 'Natural' Cave

I made a cave for my apistogramma's by having a ton of landscaping stone and fitting it together so it was nise and tight, I tied moss onto it and it looks pretty good, and they love it :) Your best bet would be like bobs, but I think itd look better with lava rock, with moss tied to it.

blending the foreground with the background?

There's some great mosses about so I'm sure you won't have too much trouble finding one for your scape. Sounds good mark, make sure you get a journal up, possibly even start one now to get some opinions on 'centre' or 'focal' plants ect, one thing....don't rush in! Plan it out get have a good...

blending the foreground with the background?

Trimming :) obviously choosing the right plant in the 1st place goes without saying, so check the plants height and needs before you purchase. Plants like p.helferi make for good fore-mid ground plants, keeping some parts trimmed and allowing others to grow over time will help to create a more...

    Tropica Aquacube, now what ?

I wrote 'A nice decorative same'. in my reply previous to my last one I was supposed to type 'A nice decorative sand' lol silly me. But yeh go for a nice sane :) no need to splash out on expensive substrates with the mosses
  41. nayr88

    Tropica Aquacube, now what ?

No problem mate, I don't know the exact measurements of the tank, but if possible a few shrimps would help keep the moss nice and clean. Ha, I wouldn't say that's controversial, of course there are plenty of options out there, the one that is most suited to you is the best one. If you like...

    Tropica Aquacube, now what ?

the clue is in the name aye :D If I was you I'd make a trip to Living waters in Croydon (I think) and pickup some mosses, I've heard they have some amazing types of mosses and the customer service is great too. The tanks small so mosses would stop most plants looking silly and massivly...
