That's what I thought aswell Martin I had 4 large rock's on one bit & 5 large rocks on the other & believe it or not it was the piece with the 5 on it that decided to float. :(
Wouldn't use styrofoam m8 I used it it mines, done the DSM for about 6-7 weeks then filled the tank & nipped out for half an hour & when I got back in the tank was a mess with the soil.
Even with the weight of large rocks the styrofoam still managed to float & lift everything :banghead...

I've still got all the Co2 stuff there so I'll probably just get another bottle & run it for the 1st few week's after it's been flooded & just turn it down a little every day & keep my fingers crossed lol.

I'm looking at doing a Soil re scape on my tank with the DSM, but seem to be seeing a lot online trying this with hairgrass & other carpeting plants. The plants do okay until the tank is filled & then the whole carpet just dies.

I'm looking to do a rescape on my tank soon with soil but can't seem to find the answer to my query anywhere at all.
Does soil really need to be capped or is it okay on it's own, Any help would be much apreciated.

All the larger return pumps seem to be 80 watt's plus but if that's whats needed then I suppose we just need to accept it :shock:, but as the last post said with the heat off the pump it would reduce the length of time the heater will be on although I don't think this would make a huge difference.
I also meant to mention my weir will be central & I will have a spray bar at each end. Would this make any difference???

So both answers so far have been 10 times turnover I was lead to believe this was only needed for reef tanks & that 4 or 5 times would be enough in freshwater although I will have co2 in my tank, I was looking at the atomizer or whatever you call it that goes into the output line would this not...
