Thank you sanj, indeed Nick16 does not know the circumstances, tbh I wasn't going to answer the post until you posted.
Thanks guys for the nice comments about the tank
Actually Nick16 discus do much better when you keep at least 5, that's juvenile fish who tend to show a bit more aggressive. With this sized group, aggression, and there will be some... is spread between the fish.
My tank size - is plenty big enough for 4-6 discus. Depending on how much water you are prepared to change in a week.
About me... I've kept discus for about 10 years now, and have been given guidance along the way by Chris Ingham at Plymouth discus. He lives about a mile from me and through the years I have pestered him often lol, Chris is a really nice guy and very knowledgeable as you can imagine. In fact I can honestly say, he has taught me so much regarding discus fish and I could never thank him enough
About Plymouth Discus
Plymouth Discus started off as a hobby and has now grown into a full time bussiness. After 35 years of being a hobbist, Chris Ingham owner of Plymouth Discus now writes the Discus articles for Tropical Fish magazine and when time allows, Practical Fish Magazine. Plymouth Discus has won best discus specialist 3 years in a row voted by his customers and the readers of Practical Fish Magazine. Because of a busy work schedule and a health issue with his skin, Chris Ingham has had to cease contact with live stock, sadly this has meant no contact anymore with Discus stock. With Wormer Plus, Discus Delights, writing every month for the magazine he is now finally completing the long awaited book "Myths and Mysteries of Discus".
C+P from his website
While I don't pretend I'm an discus expert, I do not consider myself a novice - I lost a brown discus after Christmas this year, he was one of the first discus I owned, that fish was 9 1/2 years plus, so Nick, I must be doing something right
I've recently downsized tanks from an 85 gallon (which is in the garage), the Trigon is a new tank, I got it in Sept of last year.
Because of the size, I wanted just a pair of wild discus or 2 same sex because they are adults. With tank mates to suite, few plants and a nice looking tank
Bit of a problem... living in Plymouth wild fish aren't available very often. The guy who I bought this one from only imports 3 or 4 times a year when the weathers warmer.
So I guess he will have to stay on his own until I get exactly what I want.
I don't want to buy online and have fish posted because the weather has been so cold, and because I want to see the fish I'm buying.
I could go out tomorrow and buy domesticated discus if I wanted, but wilds and tank bred shouldn't be mixed. Even though in theory they are the same fish - they behave quite differently and this would be a concern as the tank isn't massive. And I'm not planning to rescue the tank from the garage.
Here's a pic of the 85 gallon from the past and a picture of my much missed brown discus
admin - sorry this post has wondered off the gallery theme.
