Hi everyone, I've only ever made a couple of posts here and never posted a picture of my tank, so here goes :D

Hi Anita. Your tank looks lovely :) I love the wood, very nice shape to it! The plants look lush and healthy too. I have a secret desire to use lilies in a scape at some point, but it's just finding the right one!

Congrats on a beatiful tank :)

Thank you, you are both so kind :D

The plants are growing well, but I've had a planted tank for about 10 years and know what will grow for me and what doesn't.
Here's a couple more pics, and I'll do a bit of a write up :D

Staurogyne sp. recovering after the discus took a fancy and ate most of it!

love the plants, but the tank is too small for a discus.
not only in size, but they also like to be kept in groups of 4+

I dont know that it is too small, most often ive seen 40 gallons/180 litres as a minumum recomendation for discus, obviously bigger the better. 10gals per fish and yes recomendation to keep in a group so 4 for this size tank. Yet we do not know the circumstances, it could have been a bullied runt for example.

Oh yes, nice healthy looking plants indeed.

Really nice Anita. Someday I want to do a layout with such big, robust colorful plants.

Thank you sanj, indeed Nick16 does not know the circumstances, tbh I wasn't going to answer the post until you posted.
Thanks guys for the nice comments about the tank ;)

Actually Nick16 discus do much better when you keep at least 5, that's juvenile fish who tend to show a bit more aggressive. With this sized group, aggression, and there will be some... is spread between the fish.
My tank size - is plenty big enough for 4-6 discus. Depending on how much water you are prepared to change in a week.

About me... I've kept discus for about 10 years now, and have been given guidance along the way by Chris Ingham at Plymouth discus. He lives about a mile from me and through the years I have pestered him often lol, Chris is a really nice guy and very knowledgeable as you can imagine. In fact I can honestly say, he has taught me so much regarding discus fish and I could never thank him enough

About Plymouth Discus
Plymouth Discus started off as a hobby and has now grown into a full time bussiness. After 35 years of being a hobbist, Chris Ingham owner of Plymouth Discus now writes the Discus articles for Tropical Fish magazine and when time allows, Practical Fish Magazine. Plymouth Discus has won best discus specialist 3 years in a row voted by his customers and the readers of Practical Fish Magazine. Because of a busy work schedule and a health issue with his skin, Chris Ingham has had to cease contact with live stock, sadly this has meant no contact anymore with Discus stock. With Wormer Plus, Discus Delights, writing every month for the magazine he is now finally completing the long awaited book "Myths and Mysteries of Discus".

C+P from his website

While I don't pretend I'm an discus expert, I do not consider myself a novice - I lost a brown discus after Christmas this year, he was one of the first discus I owned, that fish was 9 1/2 years plus, so Nick, I must be doing something right

I've recently downsized tanks from an 85 gallon (which is in the garage), the Trigon is a new tank, I got it in Sept of last year.
Because of the size, I wanted just a pair of wild discus or 2 same sex because they are adults. With tank mates to suite, few plants and a nice looking tank :)

Bit of a problem... living in Plymouth wild fish aren't available very often. The guy who I bought this one from only imports 3 or 4 times a year when the weathers warmer.
So I guess he will have to stay on his own until I get exactly what I want.

I don't want to buy online and have fish posted because the weather has been so cold, and because I want to see the fish I'm buying.
I could go out tomorrow and buy domesticated discus if I wanted, but wilds and tank bred shouldn't be mixed. Even though in theory they are the same fish - they behave quite differently and this would be a concern as the tank isn't massive. And I'm not planning to rescue the tank from the garage.

Here's a pic of the 85 gallon from the past and a picture of my much missed brown discus :( admin - sorry this post has wondered off the gallery theme.

I agree Anita, tank size, depth upkeep and volume of water is of course important but you are fine with discus in your 190 set up, I have a full grown adult leopard snakeskin in 120 litres who was part of a pair which i've had for nearly two years and he's a happy boy!. Its important to remember how far discus keeping has come with regards to strength of breeds from original strains and that we should always remember we're essentially looking after the water and the fish will look after themselves.

My thoughts exactly  and this is where so many people go wrong and it ends in disaster.
Tbh the wild is fine on his own, he is showing great colour and is having the lions share of food at feeding time!
Thank you for your comments Tunafish, most appreciated :D

Very nice tank. Healthy, beautiful plants :) I have trigon 190 too, but struggle to grow my plants. I think it could be lack of light. What lights are you using?
