External Filters

For external filters, do you need to drill holes in the top for all the pipes, or is there another way? I have no idea!!

Depends what type of tank you have, if lidded, then I'd say Yes.
Can you upload a picture? As this will allow us insight and someone probably would have already done something similar on here before :)

Most tanks with lids have cutouts at the back for external filter pipes to go in. Fluvals Roma range do, Juwel Rio do, Eheim Scubaline do, Aqua One ranges do.... you should not find an issue. Whats your tank and hood like ?
