Do both the Aquasky and the A-series come with dimmers?
Mmmmmm, not really sure about the plastic clips - might be excess parts, don't recall them in my tank package. That little wire tool thing, think...
Yes, the little LED provides a good amount of light. You might want to experiment with the height to find a sweet spot for your tank. Another...
Your amount of substrate sounds pretty good and should work well - I have somewhat of a rock wall that separates the top level and the front areas...
Hi, not actively around the scene - but the tank is still going strong. Running complete low tech now with weekly 50% water changes.
So true, so true.
Thanks - I love how things just happen when you leave a tank alone :)
Thanks Ed - will do.
Excuse the crappy iPhone photos but these little suckers are tiny!
Think there about 6 of them.
Anything I should be doing to...
Unexpected update. It appears that I have some A. macmasteri fry hanging out in the lower regions of the tank. Stoked!
Yeah, technically my sons tank ;)
Update snapshot time - and it got a trim earlier today. Still doing 50% water changes once a week. It's really just on auto pilot now.
'Hi no Yama' is looking for a new home, can you help?
Just got some more info:
"These are paned glass construction not single piece and so won't be costing £2K as ADA do.
The construction is under...
Thanks - on the mobile so was feeling lazy ;)
Got a link?
As far as I know the ADA is a single sheet of glass molded into a tank - this new zero bead style is still a tank with 5 panes of glass joined but...
Oh really? Where did you see this? Only thing I've seen that is similar is the "ADA Cube Garden Superior - No Silicone" range.
Got to say, I think the UK aquascapers are going to love these new 'zero bead' tanks - just found out about them yesterday and wanted to share....
Meet the new residents, Mr & Mrs A. Macmasteri.
It does doesn't it :)
Wanted to share this snapshot with everybody.
Biggest difference with planted tanks and reefs from my experience so far - less light is the key ;)
Very cool. I like the embers. Do you think their colours will get stronger?
Snapped a few more shots :)
Haven't updated this thread for awhile but here are some snapshots of the tank in its current form. Really just a mishmash of stuff now really....
That is very nice. Would be good to get some clarification on which plant it is.
Not much to report on this. Just being doing large daily water changes, 50-60% at the moment. Problem is my first water change created a slight...
Tagging along for the ride :)
Just re-read this - if you simply increase the diameter of your plumbing you will decease the velocity of the flow but not the amount of water...
The Vortech MP range by EcoTecarine would have the widest flow path. Other pumps to consider include Tunze (their wavebox provides big water...
Saw Ludwigia repens 'Rubin' on the Tropica site. Now that is a nice looking plant. Anybody growing this?
Thanks for the input guys, will check those out.
Will look into that, thank you.
What are the main differences between rotundifolia and indica? Which variant has the smallest leaves, darkest red?
Thanks, been browsing there already:) just looking for some insight from those who have grown these plants.
Saw that variant on the tropica site - very nice but concerned about difficulty.
Are there any other similar options available?
Are you referring to rotala wallichii?
What are some of the better red plants that have smallish leaves? I've seems a few different types while browsing online but difficult to...
I'm hoping to enter my Hi no Yama 'scape.
Go on, guess the colour...
Ironically I also named my very first aquascape '3 stones' :)
Happy to report that Hi no Yama is now flooded, filters running, co2 checked and now I just need to set the timers.
Going to blast the tank with...
Slowly does it...
Hi Robertus - loved your reef tanks, welcome to the aquascaping world, I've recently joined myself - want to gain a different perspective on this...
Yeah, me too. Anticipating some floaters. Just getting the RO unit rigged up. Will be using 50/50 RO/Tap water mix.
Nah, going to flood the tank today. Wasnt so keen on filling it up at 1:30am this morning :)
And here we go again...
Interesting. Surely to ensure its survival a company like tropica can acquire some for propagation?
I didn't heat the tank initially, heat was provided by the internal sump which ran at 30c - humidity was too much, lack of air flow resulted in...
Thanks, the lack of air inside the setup well may have been the reasons for the mould.
Some lovely Monte Carlo courtesy of Bob (four50).
Good news George, best of luck.
Very cool! Wouldn't mind some of that - would fit my plan for Hi no Yama perfectly :)
Generally no, pressurised co2 is the best way to get co2 into an aquarium.
Thanks. DSM was stopped due to mould, lost all the HC.
Jumping in with the HC was probably my own fault, a little too ambitious too soon into my...
Thanks - not perfect but they do look good.
Very cool - the reef style comes through in the way you have 'scaped this. And as for the equipment, very nice. Reminds me of my old reef, the...
Looks pretty cool - can't believe its at that state already and my system hasn't even seen water, ha!
Glassware in place.
Glassware. 13mm in/outs, thermometer, inline diffuser and bubble counter. And suckers.
Ha ha. I guess sarcasm is lost in online translation.
Nope, lucky me, I got to pay import duties ;)
Likewise, ordered a few things from overseas for aquariums and have paid duties before too - guess I just got lucky this time round :)
Glassware has turned up, stoked.
Custom charges almost more than what I paid, not so stoked... Guess buying plants is going to have to wait.
Thanks Ali. How many pots of 1-2 Grow would you recommend?
DSM failure. Going to order more pots, plant and flood.
I tweaked the lighting set too...
So the question is, do I spend money on the...
Thanks - yes, read those threads, think I've read just about anything and everything DSM related now :)
The EC solution is extremely weak - but...
This morning I've removed the cling film, drained the rear sump chamber, cleaned panes and drained some of the water from the display. From a bit...
Thanks for that. Think I've just over complicated things.
Haha, no problems.
In terms of flooding this... Well I need to see if I can get the HC to really settle in first. If everything succumbs to mould...
Very cool as always. I like the mixture of plants.
Thanks Andy - good refresh reading ;)
...but what is this?
Did you cover the tank at all? Did you just spray water or fert/water mix?
Thanks guys - have switched tactics on the DSM, need to see how it goes for the next few days.
Must say, this growing plants malarkey is slow...
Further reading and researching is leading me to believe I'm over doing the humidity within the tank. I've now ensured there is a decent vent in...
Overview of the system showing the sump area and the condensation.
The tank inside is probably around 22-23c - a touch warmer than the house. But it is a complete guess. As mentioned previously the sump area of...
DSM day #9 and mould has crept in. Have lost about 1/3 of the HC. Anybody able to offer any input/advice at this stage?
Slow going... Nothing new to report
The rear sump area is circulating water set at 30c - this is providing the humid environment. From what I can see the substrate is constantly damp...
DSM day #4
In terms of online buying, see what the UKAPS sponsors have available
DSM day #3
Possibly. I was supposed to test a reef version awhile ago but that never happened. Would have been good to compare it to my apogee par meter...
The seneye device is the most affordable PAR meter at the moment - a lot cheaper than an actual par meter and has more bells and whistles too.
Pimp my fish tank: This is the eerie, beautiful world of aquascaping - CNN.com
And that is international coverage! Well done.
And now the great wait starts. DSM in progress.
Time to seal it up and let the growing begin.
Planting in progress.
The tank is a 50litre system.
After much debate and research, this 'scape will start it's planted life as a DSM. And because of the type of tank I think it should work well....
Very cool. And yes, looks like it has been set for weeks not setup this week.
Hi all, been pretty busy with work and life in general however things should move a little quicker now. We have plants.
Separate names with a comma.
