Nice thread as usual buddy Hope your well and the family are all good will keep popping on to see how it's going I'm pretty sure you will turn it around maybe the biscuit treatment would have done some good lol
Wow bro just read through the journal as I knew I would have missed a lot but didn't expect it to be that much haha
As normal always a pleasure to follow and admire your work
Hope the family is all well and you have a great Christmas
So I have had a rough time with this tank there was a tremendous amount of aggression in the tank and not a pleasure to watch at all tried every thing changed the tank up gave more hiding places to the discus but didn't seem to work i kept trying to do research and hoped it was just them sorting...
The plants where a pleasure mate glad to see they arrived safe and sound
Tank looks really nice I personally would put some moss on the woods but that might just be me
Looking good it's not easy to.scape one of those lil edges I remember my first tank was one and I ended up taking the top with a Stanley blade and lots of patience its pretty satisfying when it finally comes away though 😉
So did the normal water change today and found the temp had dropped looked at the heaters and found this inside the oase thermo second time this has happened when it happened last ime I brought two heaters in case so glad I did
Ita a pleasure the tank is 284ltrs not sure if that is in the thread and I have 2 filter running and two heater good job I did have 2 heaters the discus are not at all interested in the shrimp and the colony is so large a few losses won't make any difference
They have been.like this with me.today as there.getting.used to.me there coming to.the.glass every time I get close they expect food I've been.feeding 4 times a day at the moment and they demolish every bit they can definatly recognise me now
Tank is finished and torn down on to the next thanks for everyone's comments and input really appreciated loved this scape in my first bigger tank
Thanks hope you enjoyed
Yeah my thoughts where if one fails at least there is back up with the water temp as I had read how important a constant temperature is for them
They are the most settled tonight I have seen them it has only been 5 days though
@Driftless I'm running a jbl1502e and a oase 350 thermo on the tank close to 2000ltr an hour should be plenty do you think also a inline heater on the jbl1502e
Thanks @George Farmer they really love the sand and play in it blowing it around the tank much to my dismay lol
Temp is 28 constantly
Water changes I've been doing 50% every day as the woods realising tannins and I'm probably over feeding a little and am a lil paranoid about the cleanliness of...
Needed to cut back on the plant maintenance mate been too busy with work
The discus have been on the cards for a long time just had to take time to research take the plunge when there older il plant up properly its just a grow out tank so it not to stressful for them
Hi all and welcome
First off thank you for taking the time to have a look at my new adventure
So after doing a lot of reading and researching last week I took down my planted evolution aqua 1200 that had been planted and ticking along nicely for the last 8 months (had been dreading rescape day...
what an excellent read very enjoyable and also a beautiful accomplished scape for a first timer sorry for the loses but the zero loss day feels good don't it
Keep up the good work and please keep us updated
Tank looks really nice @Ady34 that frodo is beautiful was it hard to work with or did it make the layout process easier the back lights make both tanks pop can't wait to see it developing into a fully grown in iwagumi
A little gutted to see re education gone as it was such an inspirational tank...
All is good mate a busy house at the moment but it takes your mind off thing and little light lurking never harmed anyone lol
Does the uneven growth not do your head in when you just reinsert the top third of the steam I know it was me do you stick to the 7 trims rule and replany or just do it...
@Geoffrey Rea imalways on mate just lurking in the shadows how are you and the family?
So how many trims have the stems had so far won't take long for them.to colour up and Bush right out mate
No pics at the moment @Ady34 I've cut it right back last week and the new growth isn't coming through just yet but as soon as she looks good again il post some pics 😊
Yeah agreed and to be honest normally your tanks take a lot longer to reach there full potential its a beautiful scape just seems that yours are normally have a lot more going on in them
Hi I'm not sure if you have fixed your issue with the reds but I have left nitrates out of my ei mix all together and my lights are on 90% (2 x vivid 2s) and the reds have come out in my plants
Hi @confusedman I have java moss you are very welcome to for the price of a stamp and small donation to the ukaps forum there will be more than enough to cover a coconut shell
Love the story so far will be waiting in anticipation for chapter 2
The scap looks natural and you have done excellent work with the some times quiet unruly dragon stone and as they will be the main focal point the way it is slightly of centre gives a good feeling of it being very natural
It might well be the lights sam but I did trim right back on the Hra and the new growth is the nice red much deeper than it was before I mean I cut like 6 inches off so was quiet hard with it I think it has took a few weeks to start to come back too
I think its a beautiful scape but do have the feeling you have itche fingers to rescape I've seen you mention it a couple of times in your journal i believe
Go for it mate I keep a bottle of just kno3 mix just in case but have not used it yet was worried about the other plants buy I know my tap water has 20ppm in it so should be fine and seems to have been its been about a month now with no additional kno3 and all seems good 😀
Quiet hard tap water here dont actually know the hardness but I've limited kno3 by cutting it out of my all in one ferts and just letting the tap water take care of it and had the vivids on 100%
I use 2 a jbl150 and an oase 350 on my 1200 and it works so well Crystal clear water and great flow around the tank why would you put a pump in when you can have glass a pump if the filter you decide dont give you the flow you want is going to cost you in any case
Flow is king for carpet plants good flow + good co2 distribution as @Siege says keep the co2 in the yellow help them adjust as quickly as possible going from 400ppm co2 to 30 in a couple of hours is going to cause the plants to stress and melt so help them.out as much as possible I do almost...
I have 2 vivid 2s on my 1200 and I love them there an amazing light and very controllable also very powerful mine are suspended from the ceiling so I can adjust the height
Wow how things change in 5 months
So no maintenance for 2 weeks so yesterday cut all the stems right back to try and get a nice even canopy as they where all out the top of the tank cleaned glass pipes and filters changed sand and trimmed all moss back its becoming a bit of a beast to manage...
I think this really does depend on the person starting the tank you get out what you put in low tech you probably don't have to be so committed to the maintenance and water changes after the initial let's say a month less things to get a balance right with and slower growth rates
Hi tech I...
So trimmed and didn't replant tops yesterday so I can see what happens next really cut back the hemianthus micranthemoides on the right mostly because it was growing so fast and shading the ranunculus it has a little yellowing but I guess it was lack of light bue to being so dense also used one...
@Sammy Islam thanks mate think this could be long term for a while as I've proper enjoyed it but we will see you know what its like when you get the rescape itch 😀
Thanks Sam
Which monte carlo the one on the rocks i put little specs of super glue beneath to hold it down if I see to much movement in the tank flow but it generally seems to take its self with time
Id go with it cause the white ones always cracked for me sent 2 back and tried different sizes they still cracked when I cleaned them as they recommended in a 1-10 bleach solution so hopefully this one will be better
Wow really nice mate agreed about teasing the colours out looks clean and Healthy you will get use to the sand or try my trick it does work and takes 5 mins a day
Hi I run two filters on my 1200 I have them inlet and out let on the front left and inlet and out let on right back both facing along the tank
As you can see in the image
Works perfectly
Its going to be trial and error mate give them both a try for a month and see how they go its not going to hurt till you find the righ place my stems get a light flow over them I run 2 filters 1 front left 1 back right and thats only the thermo 350 I probs dont need both but it help distribute...
Let's put this into perspective we both use the same mix your 900 is what 200ltr and your adding 140ml of ferts a week 20ml×7=140
My 1200 is 284ltrs and I'm adding 75ml a week
25ml×3= 75
Unless you have made a drastic error when making the recipe up I don't see how it is possible for it to be...
Dont really see how it can be nutrient mate as your mix is the same.as mine and my plants are going crazy have you tried to adjust the.flow moving the lily's around is your co2 100% dialed in what your ph profile like just don't see how the mixes.could be producing two things so.diffrent I've...
Ohhhh chocolate cake would be messy im not sure though I probs think Geoffers son is cleaver he has been taking the cake off you @Siege and eating it letting you believe he has a stash lol
Thanks mate that means a lot coming you you have such a great eye for a scape wanted to try and make it two different sides I agree the right side dont work as well
A couple of close ups one week after maintenance going to go again tomorrow but should be an easy session as I think its balanced outland not looking to dirty
The water changes are the PITA but the hard work pays off in the long run I like the B.B.B (big blue barrel) motivational tactics can imagine the wife wants it gone much quicker than you if she is anything like mine 😀
Yeah mate I do really enjoy it sometimes I wish they where shorter but I had nothing to do today apart from the scape bit of pink Floyd a burden and all the time in the world its the way forward almost as good as a Saturday night guess it depends on the company the reds are starting to come out now
Not to bad took 5hrs lol how on earth @Geoffrey Rea does his maintenance in his allotted time il.never know lol either way I'm jealous maybe that could be what you show usin depth next
