Air pump to fend off BBA

Good comments guys, yes I was asking about the effect of higher o2 on BBA, and although I know it will not kill it, it should help stop it spreading along with an enhanced cleaning schedule. Removal will only be done as said by chemical intervention of removal of affected leaves. So I think...

We do water changes every week with monthly or less filter cleans and we change about 42 litres of our 100 litre tank each week. I have an old air stone so I'll put that in on a timer to run overnight for a few weeks and see if it helps stop the spread of this algae and improves the overall...

I've been reading about BBA and it appears extra Oxygen is helpful to ensure organics in the tank are broken down better. I know BBA is potentially caused by a build up of organics so we have upped the water change to 4 buckets a week rather than 3 and also are feeding the fish a bit less. Has...

As far as filtration goes the rule of thumb seems to be 10 x your water volume, so for you about 1000 litres per hour. I have a 125 Litre tank and use a Eheim Pro 3 thermo filter which outputs just over 1000 lph. When you say Eheim 650 I assume you are talking about the Eheim 650 powerhead?

Does this make sense (sorting a cock up)

Would it just be easier to throw your existing mix away and start again. You will use 0.6tsp of KH2PO4 in the new solution and 6tsp of KN03, rather than add another 11 or so tsp to try and correct your existing mix.
  43. swackett

Does this make sense (sorting a cock up)

I was going trough the same as you, hence my thread on ratio as my Po4 was way too high. So based on what you want which is 1ppm of po4 and 10ppm of no3 per dose you will need 12 tsp of kn03 and 1.25tsp of kh2p04 which will give you your 10:1 ratio per 10ml dose, so if you want to do a 20ml...
  44. swackett

Does this make sense (sorting a cock up)

What are you dosing? KH2PO4 and KN03? if so are you trying to get to the magic 10 : 1 ratio for ppm as I maybe wrong but thought this was for K and PO4 rather than NO3 and PO4.
  45. swackett

Does this make sense (sorting a cock up)

HI mate, What quantities are in the bottle now and what dosing are you aiming for?
  46. swackett

    EI ratio question

Yes thanks, the 10:1 ratio works with PPM as far as I can tell. By looking at the EI guide that Clive wrote, 30ppm of NO3 and 3ppm of PO4, so 10 : 1. Yes I understand its not an exact science, but just curious :)
  47. swackett

    EI ratio question

Is the 10:1 ratio the ratio of NO3 compared to PO4 in terms of PPM, rather than the quantity of the salt you add to your solution bottle as the percentage of NO3 in KNO3 is not the same as the percentage of PO4 in KH2PO4 ? So my question regarding K2S04 is because I think using just KNO3 and...

    EI ratio question

Adding up the Mg, it looks like i need to add 27 tsp to 500ml of water to get total 10ppm a week dosing 10ml 3 times a week. Is this right as it seems a lot of tsp's to me. Also how do you get the 10:1 balance using KN03 and KH2PO4 ? Do I need to use K2SO4?
