    If you are using in conjunction with the internal filter then that should be fine. Next you need to ensure you are up to the right level on the CO2 front.

I assume that i am now getting growth because the plants have settled in and adapted to under water life.

    I think you are right. To the naked eye they look very bright but I don't think they are as bright form the plants perspective. I also think they are far more directional than what tubes are which makes the brightness deceiving.
