    Drop Checker Constantly Yellow

Ceg If there is no 'going bad' with the 4dkh solution what could be the cause of the drop checker mixture showing constantly yellow as explained in the original post? Could it be the PH reagent that's at fault?

    Drop Checker Constantly Yellow

Guys, Problem is that the Drop Checker is now constantly showing yellow. I use the 4 dkh solution from AE which is normally changed every other water change (fortnightly) but this last change it went from blue to green after a few hours (as normal) and remained green for about 3 days but then...

Cherry Shrimp versus a Koralia Pump

Hi, I recently purchased a Hydor Koralia 1 Pump to increase the flow however, my Cherry Shrimps are bent on committing suicide by crawling inside the pump and being chopped up. Does anybody else experince this problem? Any ideas on how to stop the shrimp getting inside gratefully received.

    Maidenhead Aquatics

I've got 3 MAs close by: Fareham, Havant and Chicester. The've all improved lately especially with the addition ofTropica plants. The one in Fareham is the newest and has the 3m tank reviewed by George. It had a problem (power cut) a few weeks ago but is now on the road to recovery. The...

    Green Film on Surface

Okay guys, using your valued advice I've moved the CO2 diffuser slightly so that the flow is not obstructed by the taller plants (Echinodorus 'Ozelot Green'). The spray bar (by trial and error) has been moved slightly higher to agitate the surface a bit more and have had to increase the CO2...

    Green Film on Surface

I've tested the GM and KH with the following results: GM 11dH and KH 14dH with PH 7.2. Testing my tap water gives me the same results. Puzzled :? about PH as I thought that would be a little lower given the CO2 injection. So, I've still not removed the surface scum with the remaining water...

    Green Film on Surface

Rudedog - Interesting thought regarding the hardness. CO2 is lime green and not sure I can increase any further. Flow now appears to be fine but scum reappears within two or three days of a water change. I'll test for GH/KH tonight.

    Green Film on Surface

As ever, thanks for the replies. Although using a skimmer initially appears to clear the problem I'd like to find the root cause. There must be some reason why it appeared. :? I'll increase CO2 as much as possible and look at the flow patterns again. I'll get back to with a progress report.

    Green Film on Surface

Hi, Once again I'm looking to UKaps members for advice...sorry! Forgive me I'm still learning about this great hobby. Problem: for some reason a film of green algae suddenly appeared last week on the top of the water; only obvious by looking up from beneath the surface. The remainder of the...

    Improving Water Flow

Guys, Have made a few minor adjustments to the spraybar postioning and the inlet is now same end as the spraybar and will see what happens. The CO2 diffuser is postioned underneath the spraybar and last night most of the plants were pearling nicely.

    Improving Water Flow

Observing some dead spots in the tank I'm looking at ways of improving the flow. The tank is 48 x 20 x 15 (inches) 250 ltr, CO2 injection, filtration is via an EHEIM 2026 Pro II. Spray bar is one the side with the holes pointing down at about 10 degress off the horizontal with the inlet pipe...

    Cloudy Water

Unfortunately, the Cloudy water issue has returned to my tank which was previously diagnosed as a bacterial bloom on this forum. I intend to administer same treatment as advised before. Cloudy Water

In answer to replies: eds - when I was mixing RO with tap I never used GH booster. Discusdean - colour is very light grey/off white, hard to define. I'm currently running with Dan's suggestion on turning up power on the filter. Will advise on progress.

Interesting observation, thank you. Coincidentally, I've recently switched to EI (same time as change to puely tap water) and dose according to the instructions given on this forum. All powders purchased from AE.

    Cloudy Water

Hi, My 250 ltr planted tank is filtered by an EHEIM 2026 Pro II operating at about 50%. I’ve recently (3 weeks ago) changed from using a mix of RO and Tap Water to purely Tap Water. However, since the change the water in the tank is noticeably cloudier. I change about 50% each week. After...

    Pearling

Thanks to all for your comments. Dan - found the query you are referring too, not sure how I missed it the first time around. George - Yes, I've only just started with NPK and it has been noticable on the plant growth. I will increase my water change up to 50%. Thanks again.

    Pearling

My plants all look reasonably healthy and no algae however, there is no evidence of ‘pearling’ on any of the plants. :? Pressurised CO2 is controlled via solenoid and timer and is on an hour before the lighting and off as the lights go out. The 4dKH drop checker (JBL) is showing green as...

    Java Fern

Hi, This may seem a silly question to all you Plant gurus out there... Is it normal for a series of what looks like short brown hairy roots to form underneath the leaves of a Java Fern? So far it only seems to be on the older leaves. I'm just curious as this is my first attempt at growing JF...

    Water Quality

Hi, As I haven’t got my own RO unit large water changes are somewhat restricted due to cost. 25 Litres with minerals is £3.50. The tap water where I live is very hard hence why I was advised to use RO. CO2 is the Red Sea Pro System, Lighting = 1 x T8 40w Aqua glow and 1 x T8 40w Power...
