I often find when a scape has run out of control the best thing is the resolution and relief when the next scape hits, even rescued scapes can still harbour that ghost of dissatisfaction. So what’s next then? 😈

How much filter for a UNS 60U?

I would build your scape first and then take a look at your outlets. I personally like the aquario plastic clear outlets a lot but I also use cal aqua lilys from time to time. Horses for courses.

How much filter for a UNS 60U?

The other thing to bare in mind is that high flow and high velocity aren’t necessarily the same thing, that’s where Lilly pipes and diffuser outlets come into their own. It’s high velocity that Betts’s struggle with mostly, also bare in mind that big turnovers are intended for when the tank is...

    ADA vs UNS Rimless Aquariums?

Eheim sell one in nearly that size braceless and Ada and many of the German outlets have 120x60x60 but they’re not 10mm. I have rounded corner tanks but always use them backwards so there’s no visible seams at the back of the tank and the front is nice and crisp.

800 amanos? Some wood grazing cats? As many floaters and rotala stems as you can tolerate looking at for a month or 3? Seems a shame to give up on what is a 10/10 bit o wood work. The thing with it is, as you say, it’s as long as a piece of string, my last twigs scape took 4 months before...

    Landen Rimless Aquariums?

I have both, I like the uns better for finish at the mitre but in a blind taste test I would take the one that had the dimensions I like best and would be unable to tell the difference were it not for the mitre.

DIY Project Is this base strong enough?

If I were you I’d get a plate cut of the same size as the top in a thick plywood and add a brace or two at the back to remove any wobble. If it isn’t on adjustable feet or nicely levelled I’d also figure that out.
  14. Garuf

    Landen Rimless Aquariums?

“you pays your money, you takes your choice”. If you want a guaranteed purchase, you are normally best going with the big name and putting down the extra coins. If you want to pay less then I suppose you have to accept there is a risk that the lesser price is due to lesser quality.
  15. Garuf

    Landen Rimless Aquariums?

They aren’t available in Europe so I don’t think you’ll get much feed back. That said, they’re generally well regarded. These days it’s only really the cheap stuff that is of mixed quality - all the good stuff is pretty much the same in terms of quality, clarity and finish.

Can I use cotton pads to keep substrate in place?

Did you put glue on it? When I broke down my previous 45p the glued cotton pads were still there after 2 years nearly. I would imagine in the fullness of time it will rot away - filterfloss is what generally is used.

    Superfish Scaper tank opinions?

Oh yeah. Yeah if it really is 90 at substrate will grow basically everything that an entry level hobbyist will want to grow with some semblance of control.
  20. Garuf

    Why?

It’s extremely unlikely I’ll ever be able to afford a house or a garden so the 60x30ish or so I can afford has to be that substitute.
  21. Garuf

    Superfish Scaper tank opinions?

I have, the light will grow stuff but it feels and looks it’s price point - I’d think it’s rather low in par but can’t say for certain. If using co2 I’d probably risk it. Haven’t seen the hob working, the tanks I’ve seen have eheim in tank filters being used.
  22. Garuf

    Superfish Scaper tank opinions?

Much like Blau tanks, they are “only” okay. If you want one sort through them and pick the best made one, the panes are rarely aligned well and the silicone work can be good to sloppy. All the equipment they come with is hard meh.

How to make the Most of This Space?

You’re going to want/need to get behind the tank so I would probably go for a 30cm cube or a 45p stood slightly forward of the walls.
  25. Garuf

How would you filter this tank?

Ooo. I mean. 15 nerites is quite some, I tend to keep about 1per 10l, I find they generally tend to starve if you get loads.
  26. Garuf

How would you filter this tank?

Depending on the scape I would use something with between 500 and 700lph. I in the past on a tank of the same dimensions have used eheim 2224’s, tetratec ex700, ex1200 and jbl 900e and a sponge filter. Depends on what you’re doing and the scape, iwagumi or very open scapes can get away with...

Tangerine Tiger Shrimp in High Tech Tank???

I have tan tigers in high tech, they’re slow to get going but are as robust as cherries once the colony is stable. They need more minerals and protein than cherries to be successful. Co2 they don’t seem bothered by.
  33. Garuf

How many tanks do YOU run?

At my worst, 12, 4 hi-tech, 6 shrimp tanks, 2 shallow/ponds, currently 3 all high tech going down to 2 shortly and likely just one within the year just to rebalance and do a real detailed scape with a nice period of time in which to do it.

You shouldn’t need to replace the sand if you mechanically turn it over yourself, be it gravel vac or hand. Ime even large Corys in my observation rarely disturb more than the top Mm. Sand will darken, but if it’s kept clean and turned over, you would only need to change it for aesthetics.
