I don't have any where near the experience of some on here, but I would advise you to reconsider using such big lumps of wood. Because they are just big lumps you will get lots of dead spots around them and underneath them which is not ideal for getting a good flow around the aquarium. I think...

I would tend to agree with Lindy. This looks like a typical plakat that is traditionally used for fighting in Thailand.

I would go for one of the pencilfish, especially something like n. unifasciatus or eques. A crenicichla regani would be an amazing feature fish, not sure how tetra compatible they are.

South American Biotope would be much easier than an african one IMO, with much more choice of both plants and fish. Gold Emperor tetras are almost as showy as Congos, saw some the other day and they looked amazing. Upside down catfish wouldn't fit in, but more than enough options with corydoras...

GHL and Grotech pumps are really good. The aquamedic ones are more in your budget, a bit bigger but easy to maintain.

You can get single Beamswork 9w LED strips which are approx 250mm x 40mm x 10mm. You should be able to squeeze in quite a few.

I think the key with Boraras is to have far more than you had to stop any particular fish from being picked on. If you had a shoal of 20 fish I doubt you would have had such problems. Tank is looking good though.

I would look to the substrate Lindy. Is the TMC nutrasoil buffering up to the 6.5 mark. I know people generally use it to drop the pH to that level, but maybe it also increases pH to that as well? Rod
