Hi I've seen somewhere that its possible to use John Innes compost to put down under the cosmetic substrate. I put a layer of tetra complete substrate under the gravel in a 55 ltr tank, and with low light and no co2, the plants did great, but I don't want to pay £10 for a small tub. Any...

    is it safe

My tank was previously used for turtles. I cleaned it with sterilising tabs and powder (basically bleach), and rinsed lots of times with dechlorinated water. All was good, its been running fine for 6 months with community fish. Only problem is scratches on the tank. I'd consider changing the...

The value of the Khuli Loach in the aquarium

I spend my winter weekends collecting horse poo from local stables, and putting it all over my allotment, and in the garden, for the potatoes, strawbs, roses, you name it. Fantastic stuff as long as it doesn't have aminopyralid in it, it has devastated several allotments round my way. I hope it...

    Shrimp proofing an internal filter

i'll second, no third that too, also use a microfibre cloth to buff.
