Added fish --> Algae outbreak. What to do?

Given the above, do you anticipate the ammonia levels will eventually return to their previous levels or will I have to try something like a blackout in order to reduce the amount of algae?

Added fish --> Algae outbreak. What to do?

I recently added 22 fish to my planted tank that previously had three. What started as a minor algae outbreak (that was actually triggered by adding a few foreground plants a week earlier) turned into a major outbreak shortly after. Prior to all of this, there was no algae at all. The hair...

    EI Schedule Question

Just a quick followup question. When I am mixing these solutions, how do I determine how much distilled water to use in the fertilizer solution? As far as I understand it, you cannot just drop the powder directly in the aquarium.

    EI Schedule Question

I have a 120 gallon tank with 2 wpg and a low fish load. I'm about to get it started with some plants. After consulting with various people, I have bought Potassium Nitrate (KNO3), Mono Potassium Phosphate (MKP) and CSM+B Plantex. I was told to dose the KNO3 and MKP on day one, CSM+B on day two...

    Regulator O Ring

I recently bought a Milwaukee regulator for my CO2 tank. I was looking over the instructions and I noticed that it mentioned a plastic O ring. I can't find it in the box and I am worried I accidentally threw it out. Is this something that will be easy to replace with something I can find at a...

    Making your own 4dkh solution

I noticed that the article on drop checkers says that you can make your own 4dkh solution but after doing a search of old posts, I cannot find any references with regards to how you do that. Can anyone provide me with a link? Thanls.

    Optimal arrangement to maximize flow

I have a 125 gallon tank that I am currently setting up. I have a Fluval FX5 with dual head output shaped like a V (rated output of 925 GPH) and two Koralia Nano Powerheads (425 GPH each). I also have another powerhead that was being used as part of an undergravel filter that I am turning off...

Will I have enough flow? Fluval FX5 + Powerheads

That is exactly what I needed to know. Thanks so much. This forum has been remarkably helpful since I joined this week. I will be sure to report on my progress as things come along.

Will I have enough flow? Fluval FX5 + Powerheads

In this post, viewtopic.php?f=37&t=11367#p120729, it is suggested that I would need two FX5 filters in order to reach the proper flow of 10X the volume of the tank. Is this incorrect or am I misunderstanding? I am simply trying to determine the cheapest way of doing this and I would prefer to...

Will I have enough flow? Fluval FX5 + Powerheads

I'm about to get started with a planted tank and I was wondering if you guys think this setup will work. I have a 125 gallon tank. I want to get a Fluval FX5 (rated at 925 gph) as well as a Hydor Koralia Magnum 5 Circulation Pump/Powerhead (1650 gph). I also have the spray bar from an Eheim 2215...

    Mixing and matching components

Once again, thanks so much for all the help. One last question - I took a look at the filter you recommended and it is quite pricey. Do you think it would be sufficient to get one of them and use the Eheim I currently have? If I did that, could I still use the Eheim with a diffuser?

What defines a high light tank (in terms of w/gallon or w/l)?

    Mixing and matching components

Thanks for the advice. I see that the Eheim 2215 is listed for up to a 93 gallon tank. The Fx5 (http://www.animalworldnetwork.com/flfx5hipecaf.html) is listed for up to 400 gallons. Why would I need two of those?

    Mixing and matching components

I'm in Canada. I was told that the air pump would be used to add the CO2 to the aquarium after running it through the diffusor.I have a 125 gallon tank with an Eheim 2215.

    Mixing and matching components

I was told that it might be a good idea to use an air pump instead of feeding the regulator into the filter. Anybody have any thoughts on that?

    Mixing and matching components

I'm looking to buy the Aqua Medic 1000 Reactor (diffusor) but the Aqua Medic regulator is a bit out of my price range (and does not include a solenoid valve). Would it be possible to use something like this - http://www.aquariumsupplies.ca/wregulat ... p-798.html - instead?

Newbie question - Setting up a CO2 distribution system

After reading the drop checker article, the responses here and doing some more research, I think I have figured out how I am going to set everything up. I'll post it here and hopefully you guys can comment on if it sounds like I know what I am talking about. The tank is a 125 gallon tank. I'm...

Newbie question - Setting up a CO2 distribution system

I'm just getting into the business of growing plants and I'm trying to synthesize the information I've received from various places. I've decided to go with the Aqua Medic 1000 Reactor with the Aqua Medic Regulator. I was also told I needed to add an air pump to this setup but I'm not sure for...
