Will my HC survive in the sorting office overnight ?!

Well it seems that I might well have missed the delivery of my HC in the post today (long story) and it's spending the night in the local PO sorting office, what sort of condition can I expect it to be in by the morning when I can collect it ?

    Does Akadama lower ph ?

I've only targeted a ph of 6.5 from a fish perspective as the species I plan on keeping are pretty much all Amazonian residents. I'm not too worried about the levels at the moment as I'm sure the ph will change again once I have introduced quite a number of plants and have started to introduce...

    Does Akadama lower ph ?

The reason I ask is that I've just set up my new system which will house a variety of plants with halide lighting and pressurised co2 but before I've put anything in the water, other than the Akadama and filter media in my sump (bioballs, floss, alfagrog) my ph reading is 5.80  I...

    Can anyone recommend a co2 system for a 500 litre tank ?

I'll be using a sump mate, not an external filter :)

    Can anyone recommend a co2 system for a 500 litre tank ?

OK thanks for the input so far guys  Now I have decided to go down the DIY 5kg Fire Extinguisher route I have a couple of further questions. Bearing in mind I am using a sump, where is the best place to introduce the co2 ? Directly into the sump via a diffuser, via the return pump...

    Can anyone recommend a co2 system for a 500 litre tank ?

Hi Simon, thanks for that 'step by step' guide to putting it together, I must say it seems a lot easier than I first thought. Now I just need to source the bottle of co2. How tall are these cylinders normally, any ideas ? Just thinking whether or not it'd fit under the cabinet next to the sump.

    Can anyone recommend a co2 system for a 500 litre tank ?

See original post for my ability and confidence with a DIY co2 source !! By the way, has anyone ever considered putting one of these DIY systems together and charging for the service ? I for one would be happy to pay someone to do this for me.

    Can anyone recommend a co2 system for a 500 litre tank ?

Hi all, I'm finding it quite difficult to find a co2 system that can handle my future planted tank which will be 48"x24"x26" :( Obviously I'm after the right balance of what will work against something that isn't too OTT in terms of price. I've seen the DIY systems but wouldn't trust myself...

From marine to freshwater planted ?

This system looks like one of the few commercially available co2 systems for a 500 litre planted tank : http://www.plantsalive.co.uk/index.php? ... ductId=134 Anyone had any experiences with it ? What else would be needed other than a cylinder of co2 ? Thanks.

    How much Akadama ?

Cool thanks for the response, I think I'll try with 5 to start with and see how I go. Damn sight cheaper than any of the other commercial substrates I've seen !

    How much Akadama ?

Hi guys, I'm in the process of setting up a 48"(length) x 24" (high) x 26"(deep) planted aquarium and after a lot of research and reading it's fairly obvious that the best subsrate from both a growth and cost perpective will be Akadama :D My question is how much will I need for my aquarium...

From marine to freshwater planted ?

OK folks the marine livestock has all been sold and after a days hard graft the tank and sump have now been cleaned out. It'll be a week or so before the planted system kicks off but before I do anything I could do with some advice on the following, if you'd be so kind: 1) The tank is 48" long...

From marine to freshwater planted ?

Thanks for the excellent advice George, I'm sure to be back once I can move the project on to the next stage after I've sold my marine stock :(

From marine to freshwater planted ?

Having kept a successful reef for the last few years I now feel like I need a new challenge and having had limited success in the past with a planted system I have decided that I'd like to try this option again. I would really appreciate any advice on this topic from people more experienced than...
