    Fabulous planted paradise

... Hehehe, tricked you all! My post here is about my bowl which is ANYTHING BUT paradisiac. It's a 40 litre glass bowl, with a fluvial 206 filter, inline CO2 running from a sodastream kit through a lily pipe attachment. Lighting Aquay ray mini tile 400. Unheated. Dry saltFerts are dosed 6...

    CO2 TERROR

Hello all, I think the time has come to change the canister on my sodastream co2 set up... I have regulator from co2art with their special sodastream regulator. I've been noticing the pressure dropping gradually over the past week and now I see the dials read as per the picture. No bubbles...

External filters for 30 liter Cube

Hi there, I'd take a look at the eden 501, I ran one several years back on a modified biOrb with good results. The only problem is that it needs to be on the same level as the tank otherwise it won't run properly. Another option is the sunsun range. I think they do a small canister suitable for...

    Dry start bubble update

Hello Dean, The bubble is around 45Ltrs, it's glass and I picked it up from a bric a brac shop. Being glass, I seriously worry how long it will stay into one piece, but so far so good!! For the substrate I used Amazonia soil, first the bigger pieces, then the tiny ones on top. all the plants...

    Dry start Bubble

#4 week update# Hi, for anyone interested, I thought I'd share how my little experiment with dry start DHG is coming along. Actually, I realise that the photos are SUPER boring, and there's not too much to report actually... Anyway, I was getting very bored of staring at this bowl waiting...

    Dry start Bubble

It drops below Zero in the evenings and gets pretty nippy in the window where I've placed the bowl (hence the heat mat). I just noticed today some of the roots working their way down into the soil, although no change on the surface yet... but it's only day 7. :)

    Dry start Bubble

Hello everyone, I thought I'd document my attempt to grow Dwarf hair grass Emersed. I have a 32W Daylight CF bomb about 25cm from the substrate (Amazonia soil) in a 10L bubble I bought from a bric a brac shop sat on a heat mat made for heating substrate in terrariums. Any suggestions and...

FLUVAL 106 vs. Eheim ECO 130

Miranda, could you please have at look at your fluvial pipes for me and maybe let me know what size I'd need to replace them with clear PVC pipework? I've read conflicting opinions on line .. 20/16 or 16/12?

FLUVAL 106 vs. Eheim ECO 130

Thanks Miranda, if only those pipes weren't so bulky and black on the fluvial :(

FLUVAL 106 vs. Eheim ECO 130

Thanks for that... the planted bowl is stunning, and is actually the inspiration for this project... but there is just no chance that I will be doing daily water changes, hence the need for some good filtration.

FLUVAL 106 vs. Eheim ECO 130

I'm planning a planted fishbowl and indecisive about choosing a filter. I've heard good and bad about both, so i thought I'de see what you good people had to say about it.. Although I've found a really good price on the 106 online, I must admit, I'm not thrilled with the idea of having 2 large...

    External canister for Planted bowl

Hmmm, heat mat is not something I'd considered... then again, the round bowl is to be positioned on a round table (small), so it might not fit with the super clean look I'd like to achieve.... but maybe I'm kidding myself...(I know that once all the pipes and electrics and random fish stuff and...

    External canister for Planted bowl

Yeah, I live in Madrid, so the temperature here is really variable. We can have very chilly winters, and summers with temperatures which I can imagine are only matched in hell :) As heating is SUPER expensive in Spain, I tend to only heat my flat in the evenings when I'm home. But I'll run the...

    External canister for Planted bowl

Hi Bruce, I don't know if I'd necessarily agree.. I think most freshwater shrimp seem happier in water which has a constant temperature, and is not prone to daily fluctuations.

    External canister for Planted bowl

Green finger 2, thanks for the info. That bowl is exactly the kind that I love. I'll take a longer look at the article :) Bruce, thanks for your reply. I'd probably like some shrimp at some point, which is why I'd like some heat.. I'm not sure room temperature water would be warm enough...

    External canister for Planted bowl

Hi Bruce.. my knowledge of sumps and the like is really very limited... I'd rather stick to what I know at the stage (That said , I'm not especially knowledgable about external filtration either :/) How do you mean when you mention C02 moving the water? Hi Foxfish, I have a TMC mini led aqua...

    External canister for Planted bowl

Thanks... I was somehow under the impression that adjusting the flow put pressure on the mechanics of the filter reducing it's lifespan though... maybe I'm wrong.. :/

    External canister for Planted bowl

Hello all, I have recently bought a beautiful 45 litre glass bowl which I intend to use as a planted aquarium. I don't intend to keep any fish in it, perhaps a few shrimp eventually, so, please, no need for a lecture on cruelty :) I'm having a few difficulties with finding an external filter...

    Aquarium Cooling. Fans?

I use a small clip on desk fan suspended over my 60 litre aquariul when the temperature soars and it keeps my tank at a very constant 24c..... obviously for a larger tank you'd need more, but it certainly works for me....

    My algae is pearling!!

How dare it!! So I've just today installed a very simple diy yeast set up to my 60 litres aquarium..... I bought a cheapo glass diffuser (ADA knock-off) from ebay and all has been merrily bubbling away.... Thing is, only my algae is pearling.... Is this normal? I don't have heaps of algae...
