    A fool and his money...

Cheers :) Mine aren't either realy but I get bored too often so need to try something new, I reckon 3-4 tank changes per year ;) Thanks Martin :) Colour rendition, price, controllability, power, almost any marine spec lighting is better! However the V2 luminaire on the other hand is a great...

I'm pretty terrible when it come to tinkering but I guess that compulsive disorder comes from the salty side :D I'm sure you'll tinker when you've got it all sorted. So much easier being shallow and not getting your arms wet. One Grobeam would be enough, Ian Holdich just just runs one and his...

    Tulgey Wood - Trimmed

I'll be honest, I didn't really like the hardscape until I seen the last picture you've just uploaded. Stunning. Well planted, good choice of plants, shows the hardscape off better! One to keep an eye on!

New to planted tanks and would appreciate help with a set up...

Hi Greg, I remember you from the Salty side when I was in it a little while ago... I also have the TMC signature tank http://www.ukaps.org/forum/threads/a-fool-and-his-money.31857/ Just to add to what the other guys say. Test kits are useless here. Dose as much co2 as you can without killing...

    Fluval 206 Hose Replacement

Oh S*** I thought it said 106, was a bit tired when I posted. It is 16/22. It's the 106's that have 12/16 duhhhhhh.

Nearly a week later and I have my new lens. Still don't understand my DSLR or lenses in manual to a degree but the shots seem to be looking better anyways. Just a simple re-crop, no sharpening, or PS tricks...

Half Dead Plant Sent by Seapets

Looks very poor! I've also had issues with them in the past too when I ordered some coral sand. Also with TGM too with some plants arriving nearly 5 weeks after ordering. IMO. I will only ever order plants from Aqua Essential, got them next day! Great service!

    Fluval G6 pipe size reduction

I don't think it'll be too bad, as long as LCD is ok, buttons work etc. The filter has two casings so it's pretty hard for it to leak ;)
  16. Dan Wiggett

    Fluval G6 pipe size reduction

It makes sense what you say however with my G3 I have no issue, the glass lily pipe inlet lets in plenty of water. If enough wasn't getting in i'd have noise issues and reduced flow, it is neither. However on a G6 where the turnover is 30% greater than the G3 I couldn't say whether that would be...

    Fluval G6 pipe size reduction

All the way mate, shame about the little crack though buddy. I'm sure there are some 17mm lily pipes at are small but can't remember the brand name off the top of my head...
  18. Dan Wiggett

    Fluval G6 pipe size reduction

Haha, don't worry, I knew what you meant ;) Purigen is a water-clearer. Should make your tank look like there is no water in it! I agree, great filters, I wouldn't use the fine 75micron pre-filter on it, they get clogged up within a few days so pretty useless. I use reducers on mine, the G3...

    Fluval G6 pipe size reduction

I have 13mm lily pipes on my G3 without any problems, of course the G6 is more powerful though...
  20. Dan Wiggett

    Fluval G6 pipe size reduction

1.Its a 12mm-16mm reducer. Eheim produce them. 2.It'll certainly reduce the flow but shouldn't cause damage long term. 3.I'd stick with the G6 media however only use 60-70% of it to keep flow rate high. (Loads of biological filtration not needed in planted tanks due to low stock) 4.The right...

Your right, probably not the best shrimp to put in... I'll try to look after them the best I can... Bit of an update and you'll all be glad to know it's full of pictures! I'm getting a new lens at the end of the month so hopefully the picture quality will improve as it's very poor at the moment.

TDS of 150ish, KH of 4, PH of 6.3. 50-50 RO and tap water, 24 degrees. Plants havn't seemed to grow at all yet, only been five days since I planted though... I'm really impatient! Newbie proposed tank setup

They are usually sold with sand, at least the TMC ones are. But most of the marine guys will put some pearls in there instead to reduce No3 + Po4. A skimmer is used to then skim out the bacteria that will use the No3 + Po4. Obviously in a planted tank that's not what you want to happen ;)
  27. Dan Wiggett

    Choice between two external filters...

    Feedback on hardscape

Might make it a little hard to work on, and out og those three choices i'd go for the hairgrass as it's the easiest IMO. You could then plant E.Acicularis at the back for a nice effect ;)
  35. Dan Wiggett

    Feedback on hardscape

Love the wall behind the tank! Any ideas on planting?
  36. Dan Wiggett

    A fool and his money...

I really hope so, I have annoying one piece of Hairgrass that won't settle, it's raised itself a few times since last night. Cheers :D I'm happy now... Just let it settle and wait... Doing 2BPS of Co2, 6ml of Tropica plant food and 3 1/2ml of Easy-Carbo

Preventing Pseudomugil from jumping out of the tank

    LED lighting for a 6'x3'x2'?

You'll certainly need a bigger tank for that fish soon enough ;) However lighting wise how about- 2x TMC luminaires- will do 4ft long and apparently 80cm front to back (Just shy of 3 ft). 1x Maxspect Razor 300w bit of shade towards the front but shouldn't be too bad. (Only with different lenses)
  65. Dan Wiggett

    A fool and his money...

I could appreciate it not 'looking right' in your older house though ;D
  66. Dan Wiggett

    A fool and his money...

Cheers buddy. Why don't you go for the TMC signature range that i'm using in this, cheaper, bigger, same quality glass and silicone. I got the tank for £110 and cabinet for £125 brand new!!!
  67. Dan Wiggett

    A fool and his money...

Maybe for Pogostemon variety but you may have some luck, there are people after all who do keep them in soft water. Pressurised is so much easier and consistent, and your right, there's always more problems ;) Last update till I have all my plants. They have been guaranteed to be with me by...

    A fool and his money...

Haha, marines seem easy compared to planted tanks sometimes. It's certainly more hands off but everything has to be perfect which makes it more difficult. Not got any P.Erectus in yet, I have P.Helferi in there. The Erectus is pretty easy to look after... You going co2 set-up? Seems most people...

  70. Dan Wiggett

    A fool and his money...

Cheers buddy, I have H.Polysperma and I trim it every 4-5 days so far, it's crazy. It least trimming only takes a few mins. Nothing compared to doing a full tank test on my marines...

Still got Eleocharis Mini, E.Tenellus, P. Erectus still left to come.... Stil!
  72. Dan Wiggett

    A fool and his money...

Spend a good amount of the day chopping and changing the tank, drained filled up, moved around, god knows what. You guy will soon learn that I won't stop messing around till it's perfect :p The final scape is done, these photos are teasers. I have finished it and it is different to the photos...

    New 'silicone less' tanks?

http://www.adana.co.jp/en/products/na_tank/cube_garden/ I believe there is just the superior at 2k a pop and the 'normal' cube gardens.
  74. Dan Wiggett

    New 'silicone less' tanks?

Same thing I believe, unless i've got my wires crossed?
  75. Dan Wiggett

    New 'silicone less' tanks?

I don't think so, over £2k so i've seen. Why would anyone buy that? Opti-white is good enough, i've never complained or been bothered about having silicone.
  76. Dan Wiggett

    Entry Level DSLR

Get the 35mm lens, the DX sensor in the camera will make it 52mm. If you got a 50mm then the DX sensor will make it 75mm ;)
  77. Dan Wiggett

Last ditch attempt at saving my scape

Increase Co2, Increase flow, reduce lighting photo period and intensity, provide more ferts. Usual stuff
  78. Dan Wiggett

    A fool and his money...

I could always change it if I don't like it, knowing me i'll change it in another few weeks or so :P I already have a plan for this tank once this scape is done and finished!
  79. Dan Wiggett

    Calling all nano scapers...

If I had a tank small enough :(
  80. Dan Wiggett

    A fool and his money...

Certainly is though. My bloody OCD is kicking in, I should just 'leave it alone' :p
  81. Dan Wiggett

    A fool and his money...

I understand what you mean buddy. Been thinking about it for ages. There's just something not quite right with the Rootwood I feel, been staring at it for ages and I think it needs to be changed. Anyways this is the Manzanita I am getting.
  82. Dan Wiggett

    A fool and his money...

Not really enjoying the Redmoor Rootwood too much so have just ordered some Manzanita wood which should be here Thursday/Friday. Will look much nicer than what I currently have!
  83. Dan Wiggett

    Do we underestimate temperature?

I was under the impression that most plants prefer slightly cooler temps. I am more than happy to increase so hopefully this thread will get some answers from the 'pros'.

Oh dear, you guys cabinets must me a complete mess :p Only joking of course!
  89. Dan Wiggett

    ADA Amazonia dust?

Having an issue with 'dust' like substance all over the rocks, wood and plants. I was very careful on not disturbing the substrate much at all. Any known way to get rid of it? I guess it'll be rubbing the plants and do constant water changes...

    A fool and his money...

I got my lights fixed in the end, I ended up spending a few extra pennies and got an 8 way multicontroller for the lights. I have planted around 2/3rds of the tank. I am still waiting for the Eleocharis Mini, E.Tenellus, P.Erectus and Weeping moss to arrive. They should be here next Friday. I...
  94. Dan Wiggett

    A fool and his money...

Will look a bit more natural and when next to the Juncus Repens and E.Tenellus should look really nice. Will be using a bit of E.Acularis to 'soften' where the hardscape meets the Mini Hairgrass. I will definitely use Micranthemum 'Monte Carlo' in a scape in the near future though for sure...
  95. Dan Wiggett

    300L pseudo-Dutch style Planted Tank

Really nice looking tank, one of the best 'Dutch' style tanks i've seen!!! Even if it's not a proper 'Dutch' ;)
  96. Dan Wiggett

    A fool and his money...

Think I may add Eleocharis Mini instead of the Micranthemum 'Monte Carlo', would suit the tank layout better...
