I got tmc tiles, they are really nice, cannot fault them really. :) easy to setup, they look good, and are powerful.

For low light it will be perfect, at 60cm from substrate, 45cm of water it will put out almost 50par. 10 cm from the sensor it gives 220par. Mid tank it is about 80par, so good for stems. ___________________________ Luis @ghostsword

I am using it with the tmc brackets, quite high from the tank. :) I do have a 45 minute ramp up at end and close. You can leave the light at 1% at shutdown, a bit like full moon. Nice unit, I would not mind getting another, but the controllers are expensive. May invest on a multi controller...

I use backlighting, one 24w t5 on the top an bottom, for 4 hours daily. I like the look it gives, but also for the stems at the back it gives them a uniform growth, all the way to the roots. ___________________________

Wouldn't be hard to have a metal surround setup, and spray painted. For most tanks 70w are enough, so that may be a good choice. The issue I think is the spread of light. .

There are other ways to have a led out of the box, and way cheaper than this. The guys from salt water tanks have clip on e27 or e14 bulbs, and you can get those lights on led. :) I got a e27 that is about 100w bright, and two e14 that give as much light as 50w, but no heat. :) .

That is a massive difference and actually like the warmer colors better. The green light is just odd, but I would imagine that light filtered through a canopy of trees would-be green. .

If you are going for a low tech shrimp tank why bother with co2 and light? I would rather invest on a good internal filter. .

Hi, please note that the one I had was early versions so this one may have a better lifespan. One came with the tank and the other I bought from Singapore , both have 50% dead LEDs, the front ones. :) .

Yep, 50% failure in under a year. If you want LED's then get e27 replacement leds, or similar.

Above one of the tanks there was a TMC large tile. Similar to the ones that George is using.

I thought that amin of 40-50 micromoles would be required to grow most plants. I had the original lights that came with the Betta Cube, very similar to these ones, they are similar, not the same, and with two lights I managed to have a carpet. However the lights did not last more than a year...

I am very interested on the lighting tiles, and with 5 years warranty the deal seems very good. Also they seem to be the only company that is willing to supply PAR measurements of their units.

I had similar situation, and the solution was just to put the lights when people are there to see it, from 1600 to 2100. Enough time and no algae issues. I still have leds from 0700 till 2400, but just 40W for the 120L, and one bar is really high up.

Those night lights are very dark, I wouldn't think that they had enough lumens to get algae to grow.

Why not get a blue light to replace one of the bulbs?

@ dw1305 Now this is something that I need to look at as well. I got a old arcadia classic with a vapour lamp, and would like to replace it with a CFL or grow light. Should be able to do a rewire as the some hydrophonic CLF's are self balast, right?

Hi, I got it working fine, and it does not overheat, the light is very good. As I got them on my 20m cube, it just fills the tank with light, but to get the plants with as much light as possible I got two running. For mosses and anubias one light seems good enough.

Thanks Bigmatt. I will just have to see what happens. I got other leds, and they run cool, the AQUAFX 500, so hopefully this will be ok.. If the unit heats even just for a bit, then I will have to send it back.. :) If the light is not bright enough, as I will be expecting 45W then I will send...

If no space for a FE, then your money would be better spent on easycarbo, those mini bottles will not last at all. Get a dosing pump (http://shop.ebay.co.uk/?_from=R40&_trks ... osing+pump), attach the pipe to a 1L bottle of easy carbo and dose as needed.. :) There are small FE's as well you...

No issue dude.. when we see eachother next I will bring it. It will be used on a 40cm cube, with just anubias and java fern, will try to replicate mother java fern that George has done a while ago. No heating, and just the lamp and a sponge filter, pumped CO2 and EI. :)

I would say that you need CO2, although liquid carbon would substitute it, but you need stable CO2 to avoid algae issues.

I just bought one.. :) I been using AQUA FX Led's and I have obtained good results. This would be perfect for a nano tank, 45W of light is more than enough to grow java ferns and anubias.
