    Why use a Solenoid valve?

I hope the fish are ok. A quick water change helps in that situation. Maybe you can turn the co2 off a bit earlier to give the fish a break. I may be wrong but the plants shouldn't need the co2 on for that long. Turning it off a bit earlier an hour or two before the end of the photoperiod...

    Why use a Solenoid valve?

I use one to stop the fish gasping at the surface overnight. Saw this once or twice with a DIY CO2 system on my smaller tank. Even had the shrimps clinging to the thermometer and climbing over each others backs to stay at the surface Don't like to see the fish suffering.

Do pub style cannisters require a stand?

Oh Ok. Our local guy gave me the impression it was a Calor main dealer thing. Said he didn't stock it as he was a reseller rather than a main agent.

Do pub style cannisters require a stand?

Guildford offer 15.99. You need to ask you Calor stockist where they get their stock from. Our local stockist doesn't stock CO2 either. They buy a batch of the other gas cannisters from Guildford and sell them on then return the empties. You need to ask your local stockist where the main...

Do pub style cannisters require a stand?

Both look great. Was going slightly lower tech with a couple of strong chains on a couple of big hooks but these do look a bit sturdier.

Do pub style cannisters require a stand?

Great. Thanks. Got a plan to drill through a supporting wall so that the cannister can go into the understairs cupboard out of reach of the toddlers so strapping it to the wall shouldn't be too difficult. DH was originally opposed to this plan until I priced up the BOC small cannisters at the...

Drop checker not changing colour - ok now

Re: Drop checker not changing colour Both drop checkers are now green so this is working. Just took a long time to get sufficient co2 into the water. Just needed to be patient. Thanks everyone!

Drop checker not changing colour - ok now

Re: Drop checker not changing colour I have a small pond pump rated 550l per hour that used to power the filter on one of my old tanks. Is it possible to rig this up with a diffuser inside the tank as a short term fix? Has anyone tried this?

Drop checker not changing colour - ok now

Re: Drop checker not changing colour Did consider it but have fluval ribbed hoses so was told inline was a problem. 600 quid over budget at the mo so can't afford to swap out hoses and attachments just yet. Have got a tentative ok to an bigger filter with inline heaters and diffusers if I can...

Drop checker not changing colour - ok now

Re: Drop checker not changing colour Excellent, thanks. There is a ripple on the surface but no splashing. Might dig out an air stone and setup a diy co2 unit on the other filter to help it along. I'll stick a bit of easycarbo in there int the meantime to keep the plants happy. Thanks again...

Drop checker not changing colour - ok now

Just set-up CO2 on my new tank this am. Both drop checkers have stayed blue all day. Moved the drop checker to a smaller tank with a working DIY solution this PM and the colour changed after an hour. Drop checkers were postioned at the rear right and front center. My question is how long do...

CO2 reactor connected to external pump questions

I was going to ask the same thing as I've got fluvals on my new tank so inline reactors on the filter may not be an option but I do have a 550l/h pump spare. I may be very wrong but I think spraybars on the back wall of the tank positioned to spray horizontally just below the surface will...

Disposable Co2- Are they really that bad?!

I had the aquagrow on my 60 l tank. Didn't think much of it as it was difficult to get the water flow right to empty the diffuser despite almost 20x flow (two internal filters rated at 550 l/h) Somedays it worked better than others but it was difficult to keep the co2 indicator consistently...
