    High, medium or low?

I grew plants fine including red plants using a 4w led daylight bulb in an IKEA desk lamp over a 12l tank. No CO2 and no filter You won’t need a lot of light as the tank can’t be very deep.

Anyone tried these lights? Want more light in Fluval Roma 90

Hi, Looking for some advice please My husband is suggesting we add plants to our Fluval Roma 90. It currently has two 15w T8s He will not let me strip it down to upgrade to T5s as I know some people have done. He's seen this led lighting solution. Has anyone tried them? I'm not looking...

    Lights for 4x2x2

I ran 5x2x2 on 4x54w T5s staggered across the tank. Ended up only using 2 most of the time with 4 for a few hours in the middle. Does the lid lift off completely. That's what we resort to when sorting out lighting. It's just easier than trying to work through the flap in the lid

    Led lighting for a 5 x 2 x 2 tank with low light plants

Tank 5x2x2 Filters are an Aquamanta EFX 600 and FX6 and Fluval 405 (hot standby for a quarantine tank if necessary) Substrate Manado (years old.). Supplemented with root tabs quarterly and due again soon. Ferts powders made up to one of the DIY TPN recipes Easycarbo - changed from gas about 12...

    Led lighting for a 5 x 2 x 2 tank with low light plants

Definitely considering the LED tiles as the remaining T5 controllers are 5 years old so I'm guessing will be at high risk of failing. I really like the led 'look' and I know my husband will love the lower electricity bills. The T5 controllers seem a cheap option shot-term but after 5 years...

    Led lighting for a 5 x 2 x 2 tank with low light plants

It is a custom tank with a wooden hood. I can replace the t5 ballast as we have the ballasts attached to the wall behind the cabinet. I'd look at the waterproof Arcadia units if I do continue with t5 lighting as I would have more placement options as the current setup is a bit of a stretch...

    Led lighting for a 5 x 2 x 2 tank with low light plants

Hi, A few years ago I had some great advice from this forum when I was setting up my tank. I'm hoping you'll be kind enough to help again The tank is 5 x 2 x 2 planted with swords, anubias and crypts. I use powdered ferts and easycarbo It was running 4x54w t5s for 4 hours a day and just 2...

How much light do i need?

If you are happy with the nano and your plants are healthy, you may as well leave it as it is. More light means more ferts, co2, growth and maintenance and the potential for an algae outbreak while you are getting the balance right. I've got 216w T5 over a 500l but only use 108w for most of...

How much light do i need?

You should be able to work out the wattage from the type (T5/T8) and length of the bulbs. Each length is a fixed wattage. Also, I believe that rule was used with T12 you probably will need less wattage with more modern and efficient T8/T5 bulbs. See what this calc suggests...

    wrong lighting?

I have rams and cardinals under 2 x growlux and 2 x 880s. Their colours are strong under these bulbs although when all 4 are on the rams colours seem to fade as the sparkly purple is more evident although the pinks, yellows and oranges are still visible. The cardinals colours are strong under...

Cheap HO T5 fluorescent tubes - Update with photos

Ordered 6 54w T5s from them. Arrived well packaged. The 6 bulb boxes were wrapped tightly together with cling film. They were packed into a larger box that was stuffed with loads of polystyrene chips. Had to pay extra for delivery because of the length of the bulb but was very pleased overall.

T5 lighting for a Fluval Roma 90litre tank

This is the workaround that my husband has just found on eBay that will at least improve the lighting a bit. They come in 8w (40cm) and 6w (30cm) and should fit on the glass inside the hood above the water line. 2x8w and 2x6w might at least make it look light the lights are on in the day. May...

T5 lighting for a Fluval Roma 90litre tank

Have you considered suspending a luminaire above the tank maybe from the underside of a shelf on steel wire or chains?

T5 lighting for a Fluval Roma 90litre tank

I had similar question a week or so ago. There is a post a long time ago about someone upgrading to 24w t5 by cutting holes in the hood but I couldn't get more info. Glo make a t5 luminare that can be clipped over the tank (search T5 inline GLO) but not sure if it could be clipped over the...

Are these standard or HO T5?

Sorry just looked at that link properly and can see it isn't the glo system I'd seen at the lfs. Thanks so much you've just saved me loads of money. Brilliant!!! That and the link for cheap t5ho bulbs makes the 12 bags of eco substrate I need fall within budget... Sooooo happy now :)

Are these standard or HO T5?

Thanks for replying.. I've looked at the glo units at the lfs. They are way more there than on the site you have quoted. Unfortunately they won't fit on my planned tank as it has an enclosed hood (essential as I have toddlers who love to feed all-sorts to the fish. The fish in my river reef...

Are these standard or HO T5?

Hi. I'm a newbie on the site and looking for some advice. I'll soon be setting up my first large planted tank. It will be custom built 5x2x2ft with a wooden hood. I'm looking at lighting it with 2x double T5 HO units (maybe with reflectors). I'm new to all of this and I've been looking at...
