Hi all
It's moments like this that remind me why I come here so often :D
How can one man get so much plant information in his head?
Great explanation, as always
Opps
Sorry shaner, missed this.
Reduce the wattage if you can.
A lot of us go down the fire extinguisher route as it is the cheapest option. You will hear terms like 'food grade', 'medical grade' etc. when researching CO2. My advice is don't bother with any of those. Plants don't care...
Hi shaner
The Seachem fluorite black sand you mention will probably have some nutrients either soaked or baked in.
However, you can use ordinary 'black' sand if that's the effect you're after. I've seen plenty of tanks on here that use B & Q 'play' sand and the plants do fine in that :D . You...
Hi shaner
Welcome to the forum. :text-welcomewave:
All sounds pretty good to me.
You can use virtually anything you like as substrate. It doesn't have to be designer label stuff. You will just need a good dosing regime.
Word of advice though. If you cap it with sand, the sand will eventually...
Hi all
I agree with Johno2090, it is very light.
If you want to maintain a gradient long term, I used some cut down plastic lawn edging under it (standing upright of course  ) to prevent any landslides.
Works well.
Hi Vyncenze
I don't know of any other substrate with grain sizes that small. The only thing I know with similar grain size is...........more sand :D .
Personally, I would strongly advise against a mesh in between your 2 layers of substrate, if you go down that route. The main reason is that...
Re: Aquatic shop in London where ADA Aquasoil can be purchas
Hi all
You won't regret it.
Shame I can't make the 3rd.
I feel a few credit cards about to take a bashing
Been there, done that, complete with CO2 setup as well .
Boy, you get some strange looks on the train with...
Re: Aquatic shop in London where ADA Aquasoil can be purchas
Hi grandb3rry
It is not a web based outlet, it is a (big) shop. The best one I have ever seen in the UK for the planted tank enthusiast.
Their display tanks are to die for. Anything and everything for the proper planted tank.
I...
Re: Aquatic shop in London where ADA Aquasoil can be purchas
Hi all
I thought the Green Machine (one of our sponsors), was the only outlet in the UK, although I may be wrong on this
Hi all
Had this in my low tech for 2 months now and no plant problems to report :D .
Just a quick question.
Does anyone have any shrimp in their set ups with this stuff?
Hi flaviu
It goes without saying, you can wash any substrate you wish to.
But you have just put your hand in your pocket for a substrate that contains plant nutrients, so why wash some of these nutrients down the drain.
You might as well go and buy gravel and save yourself some cash :D
Hi tommyleestaples
Not true.
You should be able to cap any substrate with sand if you wish, it's just that most manufacturers won't advertise the fact because your gonna buy less of their substrate.
If you like the look of it, go for it.
Just a bit of a bugger to stop the sand mixing with the...
Thanks squiggly, that's great news.
Just went and got some this morning, seems to take a fair bit of rinsing, but if I can get the substrate to rescape my 95l for £6 (for 2 bags), I'm well chuffed  .
Thanks.
Hi all
Has anyone successfully used this without capping it?
I'm about to rescape one of my low techs and I like the colour of this stuff, (looks a bit like my hi tech substrate and that was over £100 for a 180l  ) so any advice would be appreciated.
In this tank I only have 'mid' and...
Hi all
I can vouch for that.
I got some CO2 'O' rings sent to me from them, and they chucked in a load of fishkeeping handbooks. One book even states that light plays very little part in the production of algae .
I popped the quote on here. Needless to say, Clive went into one, citing...
Hi all
Just a pity about the following quote in the ad.
"Prevents algae growth as it absorbs excess fertilizer out of the water".
Never mind eh
