    Dimming ADA Aquasky

Hi guys, Is it possible to somehow add a controller on to the ADA Aquasky? I'm thinking for the ability to have the gradual increase and then decrease before lights out....

@ceg4048 I would be very interested on your opinion of the ADA Aquasky lights if you have looked into them?

    Help me choose an LED!

I can only comment on the ADA 601 which I am using on my signature 60x45x30, it is a brilliant light and seems to be getting fantastic results of growth so far.

Best lights for 5x2x2 River system

Hello guys, It has been a while since I have had anything to do with tanks but have a new challenge in mind. I want to set up a freshwater UK based river system, I only imagine having some giant vallis and cabomba so actual light quality is not a major issue. I am looking for ideas on the most...

Maxspect Razor LED Lighting System 120W (8,000K)

What do you want to know guys, I have a nano unit over my 610x510x450 marine but know most there is to know about them in general and the nano is no different to the 120 or 160 just smaller but uses the exact same cluster of leds and has the same control ability as the bigger units. I have been...

Lets get the 6500k debate going again then

Wow now that is some difference in red with and without the 4-5k. I think the tank looks much better overall with the mix of 4-5k and 6500k I am off work and bored as hell so thought this would help pass the time pmsl

Lets get the 6500k debate going again then

So combined with all of that does that kelvin also have the best growth results?
  12. Danny

Lets get the 6500k debate going again then

Right lol Since the last sort of debate on what kelvin colour is best I have seen nothing but people saying they are using 6500k, this goes from people new to planted tanks and more experienced guys basically everyone. What I want to know is why do people choose 6500k? Why not 4000k or 8000k...

New Setup > Lighting help please!

I have just bought one of these 4x24w T5, it should be here tomorrow. Maybe a bit much light for you though and as you say the lightwave is ugly this is worse but can be worked into a hood or whatever quite easily. You could even just take the ballasts etc out and make x2 two tube units :)

help please lighting a 2 ft cube

If you guys read what I said properly you would of seen I said 6500k IS BEST for growing plants, not that it is the only light they will grow under. 6500k has been proven over years to have the best results as it is the closest thing to the full spectrum of natural sunlight for both plants and...

help please lighting a 2 ft cube

Plants will grow under 2000k - 10,000k but 6500k is the best as it is the closest to natural sunlight. People can live on just beans and water but it does not mean they do best on them.

help please lighting a 2 ft cube

Oh dear, you still hung over from new year mate lol So you recken a blue 420nm ( actinic ) will grow plants just as well as a 6500k?
  22. Danny

help please lighting a 2 ft cube

You are way off with your light spectrum/kelvin for growth, what you have listed above is the most common marine combo for aesthetics. You need to be using 6500k for optimum growth and forget the blue. Just because a light is bright and looks white does not mean it is good for what you are...

Help with my new led lighting

The only problem with the halogen is the heat, those things get burning hot!! actually burnt my fingers on them when changing bulbs in the house before I realised how hot they got and how fast. The 7w led defo looks the best to me.

    I'm getting a Chinese!!

Finally decided on what lighting I will have, it is a Chinese 48x3w dimmable led unit, got it for slightly more than it would of cost me for either a diy gu10 system or two x4 24w T5 systems. It has two channels which are individually dimmable and each has it's own power cable, have to say I am...

Help with my new led lighting

I have been going over the thread on that forum again, think I have decided on 30 3x1w bulbs with 30degree optics in 5x6 rows which will give me a 300x250 of bulbs, make that 12" above the surface and it should be perfect coverage I think...... Do you know what optics are on the ones you use?

Help with my new led lighting

I was playing with bulb layouts for a few hours last night to try and get an idea of how to arrange them lol, I am just not sure about the coverage I will get using two rows of 11 or even three with 30 degree optics because of the tank being 510 wide......I was looking at some of the top end led...

Help with my new led lighting

Any more news on these mate, I am 70/30 these over t5's. I have found a x4 24w t5 unit for a good price but still really fancy the idea of the LED's and the options of really making my own exact lighting colour plus the option of adding to the lighting so easily if and when wanted. blahblahblahblah it I...

Help with my new led lighting

Re: Help with my new led lighting If that is for gu10's I do not think they are close enough to each other to blend properly. Reading the thread I posted it seems they need to be almost touching and 10-12" above the water surface to get a proper blend and not the light beam effect. Plus unless...

Help with my new led lighting

Re: Help with my new led lighting Interesting thread guys, I am thinking of doing the same sort of thing for a new marine tank rather than forking out £500+ on a led unit. Lighting time requirements

My Aponogeton Natans love it lol one of the bulbs has grown 4 sprouts each 3-4" in 48hrs lol With the depth of the tank I didn't think it would be that much in terms of par by the time it reached the plants as the light is so far from the substrate.........
  41. Danny

    Lighting time requirements

LOL it was that last post that prompted this question, Yeah it is two double units so can run 2 or 4 bulbs........Not sure I will be using Co2 as with the sump and high light it will take a shed load to get the level up but am thinking about it.
  42. Danny

    Lighting time requirements

Ok, so this is my set up; light: x4 54w T5HO 6500k approx 8" above the surface of the water and approx 33" above the substrate ( fairly good reflectors ) tank: 120x60x76 what would you say would be the optimum amount of time to have the lights on? Currently on 12hrs but would 6-8 be better/ok...

Watts per gallon - Reflected or not

I do not have a clue about putting a T8 in a T5 unit sorry lol but from a quick look at the Jewel bulbs they are 895mm in 45w and fooking expensive lol I used these, just wired them up with some twin and earth added a plug and job done :) not sure if they have them in 3ft though...

not 45w but the right size https://www.bltdirect.com/product.php?pid=7746

Watts per gallon - Reflected or not

    That is a T8 then not T5 I think, 25mm bulb where a T5 is 15mm.
  46. Danny

Watts per gallon - Reflected or not

I do not know for certain but I do not see why not if you can get a NO in the same size and wattage as some HO bulb watts are specific sizes to HO. The actual end pin fittings are the same as far as I am aware.
  47. Danny

Watts per gallon - Reflected or not

T5 HO are roughly double the equivalent wattage output to normal T5 NO bulbs from what I have read, so you will in effect have 2 bulbs power in one with a HO. I have x4 54w T5HO on my tank but that is because it is 2.5ft deep lol Think you would be fine with normal T5NO bulbs I recken but I am...

Not a clue about measuring light other than wpg but I know par is the best way and wpg is almost redundant, but thought this may help with cheaper bulbs http://www.lampshoponline.com/ Also do you mean HO not HI? or are they the same thing?
