DIY Project DIY Water Changer, No more buckets!!

I use a dedicated hose but it's just a bog standard hose. I also make sure I empty all the water out of it after I'm done with it otherwise it'll stagnate, probably wouldn't do any harm, but just in case.

DIY Project DIY Water Changer, No more buckets!!

On the copper front... I've read many opinions on this over the years but the ones which strike me as scientifically valid are: -New copper piping will leach more copper than old piping. This is because as the copper oxidises inside the pipes so a protective barrier is formed to stop copper...

    peristaltic dosing pump

Looking good. The one comment I would make is that you should probably raise your plugs away from the floor of your cabinet, that way if something does leak you wont short out all the electronics.

    Mirror Glass Tank

Hi Sunny, If it's only when you look at the tank at certain angles then it's perfectly normal, as Chmura alluded to, it's to do with the interaction of light when it hits a boundary (in this case glass/water). It's unlikely that your fish are actually seeing a mirror (look from one end of the...

    Hydor eth 200w power consumption

You can get a electricity meter which plugs in between a plug and a socket that will tell you how much electricity something uses. Don't forget that it wont be constant throughout the year, mine is hardly on during the summer.

    Lily pipes, worth the money?

Lakeland plastics used to sell what were called 'magic balls' for cleaning, basically small copper balls that you swill round in things like vases, I'm sure they'd work really well at cleaning these things.

    Shelving Unit Help

hmmm, I really think that's going to make serious maintenance more tricky, there really isn't a lot of room. Maybe I'm just panicking because I've never had a tank with restricted access, I would try a practice run by suspending a shelf above a tank at the correct height and trying to prune...

DIY Project DIY Reactor - pictures, assembly and testing

Ohhh, I'm getting excited about this now :) Mine's not going in my cabinet so 65cm should be fine. (Though have made a quick measurement and while 65cm would fit in my cabinet there wouldn't be enough room to get a gentle curve into the top of the reactor!)

    Anyone want a DIY Reactor?

Now that's an awesome idea! Like a mini sump but without the gassing off of CO2 instead you have the adding of CO2. :D

    Anyone want a DIY Reactor?

Well if any one backs out then you know who to contact, alternatively if you get enough interest for a second batch :D Cool, sounds like what I expected it just wasn't on the original diagram. Looks funky but I like the idea of Ed's without the bio-balls in there as it doesn't reduce the flow...

    Anyone want a DIY Reactor?

Damn, can't believe I missed this thread! Only found it via links from other reactor threads  I'm seriously considering switching to a reactor as they're meant to be more efficient and this would have been ideal. The only worry I have is that my current filter wont be up to...

DIY Project DIY Water Changer, No more buckets!!

Re: My Water Changer This is what I was planning on doing, though I want to be able to connect it to the shower rather than a mixer tap. I'm also going to run it through a net when draining to catch any inquisitive shrimp ;) I wont be sucking on any pipes, just starting the siphon going with...
