    ADA vs UNS Rimless Aquariums?

Eheim sell one in nearly that size braceless and Ada and many of the German outlets have 120x60x60 but they’re not 10mm. I have rounded corner tanks but always use them backwards so there’s no visible seams at the back of the tank and the front is nice and crisp.

    Landen Rimless Aquariums?

I have both, I like the uns better for finish at the mitre but in a blind taste test I would take the one that had the dimensions I like best and would be unable to tell the difference were it not for the mitre.

    Landen Rimless Aquariums?

“you pays your money, you takes your choice”. If you want a guaranteed purchase, you are normally best going with the big name and putting down the extra coins. If you want to pay less then I suppose you have to accept there is a risk that the lesser price is due to lesser quality.

    Landen Rimless Aquariums?

They aren’t available in Europe so I don’t think you’ll get much feed back. That said, they’re generally well regarded. These days it’s only really the cheap stuff that is of mixed quality - all the good stuff is pretty much the same in terms of quality, clarity and finish.

    Superfish Scaper tank opinions?

Oh yeah. Yeah if it really is 90 at substrate will grow basically everything that an entry level hobbyist will want to grow with some semblance of control.
  7. Garuf

    Superfish Scaper tank opinions?

I have, the light will grow stuff but it feels and looks it’s price point - I’d think it’s rather low in par but can’t say for certain. If using co2 I’d probably risk it. Haven’t seen the hob working, the tanks I’ve seen have eheim in tank filters being used.

    Superfish Scaper tank opinions?

Much like Blau tanks, they are “only” okay. If you want one sort through them and pick the best made one, the panes are rarely aligned well and the silicone work can be good to sloppy. All the equipment they come with is hard meh.
  9. Garuf

Can I ditch the filter and replace it with a skimmer?

It doesn’t help exactly, but I used a job with a skimmer from ista for a long time and was very happy with the result, it just looked a bit clumsy.

Time to upgrade my nano tank.

Perhaps I’m expecting more? They’re fine for the money but I looked through maybe 10 in my lfs before buying my uns and it wasn’t many that I’d call 10/10. Silicon being a bit sloppy and the panes not meeting squarely. Blau are the same actually and come in at a similar price so I could just...

Time to upgrade my nano tank.

As someone who only recently moved to using hosepipes because I have to do 110l out/in between 4 tanks I will still use a watering can and buckets for all the <60l tanks if I’m changing water in only one. I use a 20l bucket and a 12l watering can. Takes more time and is more physically involved...

Time to upgrade my nano tank.

I’d go for a 55l scapers tank or a standard 60p. I don’t much care for the dimension of the 70l scapers tank as you can’t use a “standard” sized light.

    Clean up crew

I would try/risk cherry, Malawa or Pearl/snowball shrimp on account that if you can get a good colony going they breed so vigorously that you ought to be able to have some always. Mileage varies though, I’ve spoken with fish keepers who have shrimps with angels and they are always in surfeit...

    Rock?

It’s a type of basalt from my research. If you have a garden centre near you can often find nearly similar by looking for “black river cobbles” and searching through the gabian to find the best ones. Alternatively, go to north wales and collect water worn slate, with effort you can find...

    Seachem tidal hang on?

You could. Co2 diffusion tends to get a bit doofy the bigger the tank though with hobs. You don’t need to buy an Oase though shop around and there are options from tetra and jbl for less or even trawl the sales sections, second hand stuff pops up from time to time at a bargain.
  18. Garuf

    Sourcing a 60x30x30 Tank

Eheim and tetra offer the same tanks for similar money in their starter sets and are often very cheap. (Look for the play mobile set from tetra, that’s often 30€). Otherwise, clearseal’s 24x12x12 was very easy and cheap to find in my part of the country and was usually available braced or...

That’s actually a very sensible suggestion, especially if you’re not adding mineral supplements via food. Cherries can be prone to failed moults if deficient in minerals.

    Aquarium Tank

“If” I were buying a setup from scratch where I anticipate things to go smoothly and to stay in the hobby I would purchase: A dennerle scapers tank 55l or a 45x30x30. I would buy a chihiros slim or twinstar, I forget the range name but the most powerful one. I’d run them at 50% for the first...

    Aquarium Tank

Yeah they’re a bit like kabutai, where there diminutive size isn’t really a guide for the tank size. 45cm having kept and bred them is about the minimum with a 60cm being preferable. They’re also fine with higher flows and seem to actively choose higher flow areas to spend the majority of the...

    Aquarium Tank

I have grown a carpet of hc in a 30cm cube with a single Leddy led lamp, lots of nutrients, lots of co2, not a lot of light is a good recipe for a very stable tank provided you’re over the minimum light threshold.

Up to about 1cm then they could fall victim. Above that size they seemed less vulnerable though I have seen 15mm or so to be attached immediately post molt.

Yeah. Good luck. I had a colony of cherry shrimp with galaxies for a few years and they twice caused the colony to collapse through predation needing me to dump in another 100 or so from another tank to get the colony going again. They are a very predatory species and are not really shrimp safe...

There aren’t many temperate fish that also do well at that temp that’s what makes them temperate. I would point you to the 2hour aquarist on low tech - marks video is something like a starting point but is somewhat misleading as soon as you get to larger/deeper tanks and doesn’t deal with the problems that show up long term. adding aquasoil to an established tank

It’s a bit of a how long is a piece of string question. Adding “a lot” will undoubtably stress lifestock, the filter and plants with the high amount of leaching. However if it’s just “some” if you keep up extra water changes, then in my experience spikes can be minimised as the filter is...

Really best is relative to your tastes and the quality of the aquarium. Quality wise the spendy options ADA etc are going to be “best” in terms of finish. The dimensions however might not be to your taste or suit the scape style you have in mind. I just bought a dennerle 55l white glass and...

Do you find unusual tank sizes difficult to scape well?

Tall tanks with shallow depth front to back are the hardest to scape. A 60x45x45 is an analog to 45x30x30 which is one of the nicest tanks to have to scape because you have both height and depth to work with. At a point too much depth can become a hindrance if it is not balanced, the hyper depth...

Gaspers. Again. No co2 was injected during the afternoon/evening yesterday and the drop checker was very dark green at lights off. At lights on it was still very dark green almost blue. Only thing I can think is a dirty filter and a trip to get a test kit rather than strips to see if there's...

You can tell when they've caught a shrimp because they go the same colour as the food, in my instance I would see blue and black ones happily skirting about, they obviously made a huge dent because it reached a point where I had an entire missing generation of shrimp and I would see them berried...
