Is Karen’s book good? (Sunken gardens) Nice looking scape, I’m ready to redo my own, I think I’ll be stealing some ideas.

Great tank for some endlers, eh,Shaun? ;)

    Only cube tank....

What’s the light? It looks like a tanning bed on that tank!
  4. Garuf

    Two’s a crowd…..

Damn son, that’s a nice little scape! Be sure to replace the rotala with a grass at some point, it has real classic amano bones. Is it slate or similar? Reminds me of the rocks I collected in North Wales.

    30cm nano (16 liter) - Video update

This scape deserves a hanging light! It's beautiful but that light... It spoils all the hard work.

120cm - George of the Jungle pg.5 new pics

The most is almost certainly a fissidens by looking at the growth pattern, it looks awful like F. fontanus, have you ever had that in this tank, even in a holding sort of role? I'll try and find my point and shoot to compare and contrast my emerse f.fontanus.

Re: 120cm - George of the Jungle Funny you should mention pirahna, I was thinking buck tooth tertras might also look good, the colours once happy are breath taking.

120cm - George of the Jungle pg.5 new pics

Re: 120cm - George of the Jungle Preacox rainbows would have been a better choice for the tank I think George, similar colours more elongate frame to exaggerate the horiztontal, that's a minor niggle though, I love how healthy it is, not something I'd ever want to try myself though.

Some of my tanks - Octopus

In the last picture, is that a tang on it's side?! The sort of yellow streak? I love the reefs, so healthy looking!

    80cm - Paradise Found

Nope, you have to be in Holland for it to be dutch. ;) Looks good George. Reminds me of Tom Barr's harvesting tanks.
  13. Garuf

    Super Shallow Iwagumi

It reminds me of Aires rock. What's the glass wear like? Is it much like the powermen stuff? Seems to be from the little you can see in the pic.

    Betta Nano Cube from J&K

The light on these apparently produce a very reasonable 30par, which means you should be able to grow a very nice range of things if you're co2 is good, keep us posted. It's a nice scape too, though I think the two bits of wood would be better on tilted into the scape to provide a focal point...

60cm - Liberty Island (Cenotes biotope)

Interesting you mention the tanks as a limiting factor, it's not really something you consider till you have your hardscape, or at least I haven't actively. I personally thought the photography was as good as the PFK standard format, you're not missing much there. Substrate and decor is...

60cm - Liberty Island (Cenotes biotope)

Doesn't Nico use just 2x 18w t8's too? Really nice tank, George. I think this might have been my favourite of the lot. It certainly made me want to go to a cenotes and spured research on them. I'm curious, when I strip a tank I often this of what I would have done differently, with some many...

    Where do you have yours?

Thanks, it's very impressive. Do you find it hard to keep up on the co2? halides always read as trouble for me but a lot of people are having really great results.

I love the light on the first, where is it from if you don't mind?

Dave, does you lido have marine spectrum lighting? It looks very blue!
  22. Garuf

    Where do you have yours?

All of them where in the loft with the exception of the 75cm. Water changes meant carrying two buckets of water down then two up at a time till the job was done. It kept me fit.
  23. Garuf

    Where do you have yours?

How many tanks do I have? Currently 3, one on order. At the peak I had a 45x30x30 a 60x30x30 a 30x20x20 the cube and a 20cm cube and a 75x30x30 all running at the same time all planted. Didn't last long though, was giving away tanks and equipment left right and centre to family and friends when...

    Where do you have yours?

None of them in a caravan, that was an experience. I'll see if I can find the s digs ones. First student digs. My old room in Hollington My cube on my desk in said house.

    Where do you have yours?

Always had them in my room, weather in the loft, a caravan or a dorm, always managed to find room for one of them to tick away.

    My Lygodactylus williamsi paludarium

They're lovely! Is there a paladium equivilent of a nature aquarium? I find they a bit like reefs and dutch scapes where everything seems a bit, I dunno, unnatural?
  27. Garuf

    Rio Negro biotope

Rainbows don't like high levels of co2 either, I think it's a river type thing, I'm lead to believe co2 levels in rivers with lots of waste have higher levels so fish from these places can take more. I seem to remember Ceg laying this out regarding some fish that couldn't take the co2 levels, I...

    FoF 2009 UKAPS Display Aquascapes

I spot this autumn/winters new trend, beige/brown scaping! Very nice, I particularly like the iwagumi. Are there any stems in it? I see it as being a mould breaker like those of Nico. Very nice indeed, to all a big well done.

120cm - The Crypt Eternal - final tank shot

Re: 120cm - The Crypt Eternal George, did you find you go a bad surface scum on this tank? I found that every time I've ever used crypts I get an oily scum that no amount of co2/flow tweaking really gets rid of.

    my planted tanks

They're some of my favourite tanks of the moment, yours and sabats. I know your secret though, I know it's actually those parrots of yours doing the scaping. Like an avian "ratatouille".

    Me too.
  34. Garuf

    65Liters

Haha, you have no idea how cold that river was. A nyphia would be brilliant it needs that splash of colour that made this tank so magical previously. It's still nice but subtracting the colour and texture has subtracted some of the magic.
  35. Garuf

    65Liters

Very very impressive, to say anything bad would be a travesty. I felt so inspired by it I ripped down my nuked tank and put on my shorts to see if I could find any rocks in the river.

    "The Miracle Mire" photographs

It's bloody horrible is what it is. So so sorry to here about the tank, mark. I've had gassings twice they ruin your life.

    60cm play tank

haha, I meant are you trimming them back so they're an inch or so high and letting them grow or are you just thinning as and when?
  38. Garuf

    60cm play tank

Haha, I couldn't resist, It's nicer than mine and I needed to say something about it. Will you be entering it into anything or are you not happy with it? What were the tips with the nessea? I think that could be useful to everyone. How are you trimming your rotalla too?
  39. Garuf

    60cm play tank

Very nice, though from a scaping point of view that right hand side isn't sitting right for me. Maybe it's the angle? I like it though, especially the understated sand foreground, something I had all but gone off till now.

    120cm - South East Asia

The basics were someone was saying they want to inject O2 because they'd seen amano's tanks were injecting it. Barr popped up and said something along the lines of "he doesn't inject o2 he just rises the lilly pipe to increase surface agitation".
  41. Garuf

    120cm - South East Asia

That means he raises and lowers the lilly pipe. I remember Barr blowing that one up on plantedtank.net back when I started.
  42. Garuf

    120cm - South East Asia

Would that be like a co2 monitor that changes the injection rates like how a ph monitor does or is it something even more complex?

    Aquascapes 2003 to present

Re: Six years of 'scaping Yeah George, I'm certain that isn't all of them? Would it be worth asking Jeremy if you could feature his Iwagumi and maybe some of the other tanks I was certain you'd done?
  45. Garuf

    120cm - South East Asia

Very nice George, just how many tanks are you running at the moment? Also, what are the dimensions of the tank? And did you use lilys or bars?

    saintlys the henge

It's spiky moss not weeping. Other than that well done!
  47. Garuf

    Iwagumi

Haha, you'll upset people saying that, I don't know on the the rock front, possibly slate or a shale?
  48. Garuf

    Iwagumi

Not sure, they're just plain 'ol landscapers aren't they? Also, this is my favourite scape you've ever done. Well done. I'd like to see some hair grass in there though, somewhere...

I've read that blyxa only changes colour when it's in high light after being trimmed, no reason why was offered however. I didn't use a off the shelf light on mine I used one I'd made. If I were you I would look into the yanyin one on the link Arrron I think it was provided. The clip on lights I have are from this seller: http://myworld.ebay.co.uk/antonb567/

    30cm - Little Mountain

For a 18x12x12 (lovely tanks to scape, I've had one and have one waiting empty) I'd have a 24 watt 18 would be too little and 36 I found to be too much.
  62. Garuf

    Planted Aquariums

It looks good though I advise removing the substrate heating and dosing EI and upping co2. I missed a few bits back then High phosphate and nitrates are bad? Most if not all of the people on here actually dose them, and as if by magic still have algae free tanks. Also, surface agitation is a...
