Well I won't repeat that experiment then seeing as we both have had failures with that method.:)
Will try bleach next time. What ratio to water do you use?
I'm using a Chihiros brain and its on it's second reactor since December. The first one worked well for about two months before I first cleaned it in white vinegar. What alerted me was the appearance of green algae and then I noticed a reduced output from the reactor. The clean appeared to...
The reason maybe Andrew is that I ordered a v3 but it came in a v4 box for some reason so maybe the parts were just left when it was packed. The Bluetooth label is masked out on the box it came in.
I have these Tim. These are from the late 50's to mid 60's. They were my Dads but I've never looked at them. I must make time to do so to see what opinion was back then.
The process will give you an indication of your Co2 levels are in your tank. You'll be taking hourly readings before your Co2 comes on, further readings as the Co2 ramps up, readings when the light comes on and then during the photo period.
So start with a reading an hour before your Co2 turns...
Well it wouldn't have helped and you may have answered your own question. If people have to stop Co2 for any reason then its common to reduce the lighting or leave it off. Depending on what plants you have they may recover if you get your Co2 right.
I've used it in three low tec tanks with my liquid rock water. I did plant heavily and waited a month before adding livestock but I never had any issues with fish or shrimp.
Like Henry said, you either need a drop checker or PH pen. That will give you an indication of how much Co2 is in your tank and when its reaching the best levels.
Don't feel like that Brumbird, although I did when I first joined.
There are some stunning tanks on here but there are also plenty of journals where people have been in similar situations to yourself and those tanks have been turned around with help from the community here. :)
With the...
I think the issue is these are only single point calibration. I calibrate mine to the closest range I'm interested in which is 6.8,

Wasn't sure where to post this so sorry if it's in the wrong section.
Anyway, a friend of mine has some tiny yellow bugs (1 to 2mm) in the hood of her tank. Any ideas on what they are and how to get rid of them? She has tried washing the hood but they still come back.
I don't see it. If the person believes that the "standard copy/paste response" is of use to the original poster then surely there isn't a problem?
I certainly don't see people not being given the time of day here.
Re: Whitespot advice for large tank with lots of scaleless f
If you can still see spots 24 hrs after the last dose you will need to dose again. Before dosing I used to clean off the top of the substrate as well. If you have no spots are 48 hrs then do your normal water change.
Yep. To quote Clive "Poor CO2 and poor flow around the plant makes it strung out and leggy in order to reach the surface more quickly to find CO2. People see this behavior and they automatically think "Oh I need more light" which is exactly the wrong thing to do."
Sorry to hear this. I'm amazed that this can still happen these days. You'd think by now heaters would have some kind of thermal fuse or cut out as a fail safe.
Hi Frederick, As far as the CO2 goes you might need to switch it on more than one hour before lights on. One hour is just a guide, mine comes on 3 hours before lights on to get to the desired lime green level. I'd suggest incrementing it in half hours over a few days to see if it improves. If...
I had a narrow escape last week. Cleaned my inline atomiser last Wednesday night (didn't touch anything on the CO2 kit), got home Thursday to see bright yellow drop checker and all fish at the top, some spinning in the flow. Fortunately they all survived after a water change, but like you I've...
My biggest frustration is lack of information on what you are buying. Before I discovered this site I dread to think how much cash I wasted on unsuitable plants because many of the places I used didn't even have the plants marked up with the name. For the experienced person its not so much of a...
Theres a few shops in Crews Hill there but not always a great selection plant wise. Maidenhead Aquatics (Located in the Enfield Garden Centre) usually stock a few as do the Aquatic Warehouse and Wildwoods. In my opinion the Maidenhead Aquatics place is the best.
The majority of plants in my...
One thing I find conflicting information on is what tank volume to base calculations on for flow and EI. Should these calculations be based on the tank capacity or the actual volume once substrate and scaping materials are added?
Cheers,
John
Unfortunately I think it's a common problem. I had a similar chat with a mate the other week about a 'gap in the market'. My LFS is dire but it has no competition, I don't use it and prefer to travel to the nearest Maidenhead Aquatics. One thing I find inceasingly annoying is two local-ish...
I've lurked here for ages with only a handfull of posts, mainly because aquariums are newish to me and I don't want to ask questions that the more experienced people have answered 10000 times before. This site has been an invaluable source of information for me and there is a great community...
