Its usually due to poor / low Co2 in the lower regions of the tank. Are you injecting?

I've used something similar to this and it works really well.

How are you running your tank Tam? If your plants are not growing well the last thing you want to do is upgrade your lighting. You say you are not running CO2, are you still adding ferts and what is your lighting period? What are the symptoms of the plants that are not doing well?

What's the turnover of your filter and how are you dissolving your Co2? You may not have good Co2 distribution at the substrate level.

Try contacting Aquaone to see if they have a three pin version. I have a few bits of Aquaone stuff and none of it ever came with a two pin plug. Did it come with an adaptor or did you have to by one?

I got one of these from the same seller that you linked to. The unit you get is a Boyu one that has the rubber protection over the switches and sealed UK plug. Actually I think someone was selling one of these on here recently and had modified it to go on a longer tank?

Thanks Pep and Miranda. I'm injecting CO2 and using EI ferts on this. I'm looking for something that allows me to be flexible. I know that the CO2 and flow etc needs to be right but want something that will give me decent PAR at the substrate.

If your T8's aren't giving you the light you want then get new ones. In the meantime start adding your Co2 and ferts :thumbup:

Without wishing to sound rude have you successfully grown aquatic plants before? If the answer is no I would suggest sticking with your T8's. More light can give you more problems. Many people here have great tanks with T8 lights :thumbup: If you get your Co2, ferts and flow right you will be...

To get a helpful response here I think you need to post your tank details and what you are aiming for? Is there any particular reason why you want to go T5?

Thats very high lighting. In the old days 4 watts per gallon would be considered high, you would have just over 7 WPG. Two tubes on would be more than enough so you may want to look at a lower lighting system. The greater the light, the greater the chance you will run into problems.

I used reflective tape on one of my tanks. The increase in brightness was quite incredible.

I used to run a koralia with my trickle filter. Like you the plants were swaying nicely but I also had similar algae to you which I'm sure was caused by the CO2 being unstable due to the trickle filter. I also had BBA on the sibstrate. As I said, I currently run an Eheim 2078 with the inline...
