I use rainwater exclusively on the nano tank and Walstad Bowls in my classroom at school, to great effect. I do live in rural Devon though and the roof in question is covered in moss, which may filter some of the other organic stuff (like bird droppings) out.
My KH and GH seem a bit high for my planned introduction of Crystal Red shrimps (although my Cheery Reds thrive in it). The results are from a dip test so must be treated as very approximate;
pH 6.8
KH 7
GH 10
I usually make my water 50:50 with RO:Tap as well as adding a pinch of the Kent...
I live in Devon and use rainwater straight out of the butt - no filtering (apart from all the moss on the roof) for my nano and Walstad bowls. They all seem fine.
