I'd agree with Clive. Slowing things down with light, co2 etc is a good thing. I'd also suggest to 'hoover' at substrate level. It's quite amazing to see how much detritus comes from this level of the tank...even when you think it's clean.

I've probably spent £2500 on lighting alone. My current luminaire was £900. I've an ADA solar 1 @ about £450 the list goes on.

I think this is a genius idea Luis! I'll be trying it. I'll try and find an old blender at a car boot sale, just for this purpose.

If i see my temp go above 24ºc, espeially in summer, i'll water change everyday. to bring it back down. My plants grow so much nicer at lower temps. `room temp is just erfect for me....in any size tank for that matter.

The P@H tanks are a bargain, and look much more expensive than they really are. For the money, they're a steal. You'll need a lighjt though. the supafish 11w Nano light is awesome.

Send it back. It's a large tank to go BOOM! Could be quite dangerous.

II dont use heaters on any tanks. With no effect on fish. My tanks maintain 23ºc, rising in summer. Sometimes, they'll go down to 19ºc, but the plants do like that.

I find film is a 'new tank' thing. Until everything stables out, just keep up good 'house keeping' so to speak. I take it off with a plastic beaker daily. After a few weeks, it should go. I've not seen it on my 120cm for about 7 or 8 weeks now.

Backgrounds all depend on what is currently behind the tank. i.e a wall. If your wall is white, or similar, try to move the tank away from the wall as much as possible. This allows the light to fall onto the wall, helping illuminate it. In the past,I've been known to place a blue background...

If your solely using MH then keep the lamp high. I'd suggest using t5 mostly, with an hour (to begin with) of MH. this will allow you greater room for movement, and will also allow you to keep the physical height of the light unit lower.

150wMH over a 90cm is just fine. I've even run 150w over a 60cm with no problems. Just make sure to suspend the light higher than usual. This over a 60cm

It's much cheaper to tie moss and riccia using slate, fishing line and superglue. The video is awesome. They all are. This scape is mind blowing in the final shots. Such vision the man has.

I agree with luis. If a scaper were 'guided' and the tank were to fail, who's to blame? It's about looking, watching and learning. Forums, and especially this one, are full of the basics to get going. Learn how to grow plants, then move on from there.

So, if these products done work,...and some say they dont. Could you explain the, when people set up tanks with just...let's say...plain old ADA amazonia or columbo for instance, the tank fails...which I've seen on occasion's...does this then mean ADA amazonia is all 'Hype' and doesn't work...

6 hours for me. I tend to stick to that for the tanks life. In the coming set up, i'll be starting with 5 hours, as i'm away during the week.

I've personally grown many plants in unheated tanks, and not really suffered any decline in health. In fact... 2 winters ago, my heater broke on a tank, away from home, the water temp (in a conservatory) went down to maybe 10c...it was cold. The fish did die, but the plants looked amazing...

put lights and co2 on timers.

here you go. The old prairie lands a year ago. The reason i ripped it down. chronic algae... I got fed up with this. so left it to see what happened... surface scum builds. leaving it deprives the tank of oxygen i reckon. Now fast forward a year, with better knowledge, maintenance...

in all honesty, i'm not sure. My observation's tell me, when more co2 is added it can get worse (sorry Clive) but it does. I believe, (without scientific back up) it's instability with biological contents of the tank, or lack of it. I get it on start up, to about 7 or 8 weeks in backing my...

like I've said, it comes and goes also. Thin film, which if left unchecked, can get bad. Skim it off with a plastic tub (takes 2 mins) it runs clear. Over time, it then disappears all together.

oddly enough, me and james have had discussions regards to surface film and co2...but no conclusion. It's weird, sometimes i get it, and sometimes i dont. :? when i do have it, it's easy to get rid of, using a plastic container....forget paper towels. :thumbup:
