    I used sketchup to design my DIY cabinet, means you can join all the pieces together and check they fit virtually, before going and paying for the timber. Mines 18 months old now and I've had no problems.

    You'll be fine, there's a load of excellent youtube videos on how to build acrylic tanks. I'm a total beginner when it comes to DiY and i managed to build mine and i'm really happy with it.

    i Had a Roma 200, the cutouts weren't big enough for a 16/22 filter, so the lids had to balance on top of the pipes.

    if you've cracked it you're going to be wasting Co2, also you'll struggle to get enough pressure for it to work at all.

    In my first planted tank I used one of these with decent success. As long as the pump in the filter is high enough flow then it will work fine. Although in the end I cut the bit of plastic dividing the tank out so I could have a larger tank.

    Agree with Ian that fire extinguishers are so cheap you should just go that route. Every time I've tried to save money in this hobby by using a cheap alternative I've ended up replacing whatever bit of kit it was with the recommended one within a few months making it more expensive.

    Myself and my girlfriend once carried a Fluval Roma 200 up four flights of very narrow stairs because the delivery driver wouldn't help, only once we go to the top did we realise there was an extra 25kg of gravel and a load of other accessories inside the tank...
