Just a little tip Dave when taking photos with the iPhone. If you put some card on the top lip of the tank and rest it on the light you’ll stop the glare which is reducing the contrast on your photos. Should get a better idea of what it looks like then [emoji1303]
Thanks. Might be a bit more difficult then as the lightstrip doesn't do 90 degree corners very well :( I might try a single side or 3 sides and see what it looks like
Just to drag this one back up.
As there is no 120cm option for the ADA panel and Ive got a Phillips HUE lightstrip plus handy I was thinking of trying a DIY effort with a frosted panel of acrylic.
Does anyone know the lighting layout within the ADA panel? i.e. is is a single strip underneath...
Evolution Aqua are the new UK distributors which is where Im getting mine from.
http://evolutionaqua.com/acatalog/Kessil_LED_Lighting.html
They have a distributor list below
http://www.evolutionaqua.com/acatalog/Master_Dealers.html
I was doing some product photography for Evolution Aqua so Im guessing their website will be updated soon once theyve launched. Their new marine and aquascaping tanks are very nice! Top quality silicon and beautiful cabs, probably the best Ive seen without trying to be biased and the gloss ones...
i had a look at the 160 and 360 tuna's at Evolution Aqua yesterday and they look really good. the fan noise on the 160 is quite quiet now so Im assuming an improvement on the old ones that were noisy. The controller for them is very cool too. almost like an ipod of old with colour screen and...
Ah right. Always thought a grand solar was a bit overkill for a 90cm. Have always got on ok with the 150w on my 90cm. As above just lower or higher it at different stages of the scape.
Yeah they are good, I really like the colour of the light it gives off and havent seen it off any other bulbs. Ideally I'd like ADA to do a solar 1 with LED's in but I'd probably need to lose a kidney to afford it!
Cheers andy, feel a bit better now that its common but a little less drama would...
nah, i know not to touch them and its been in its enclosure since it was bought. its about two and a half years old so was due for replacement. Just didnt want to pay for one this month!
do these often blow themselves to smithereens? Luckily the glass enclosure of the solar 1 caught all the nasty glass fragments and stopped them going into the tank. Wasnt in when it went but expect it was a sizeable bang. Off to TGM tomorrow by the looks of it :(
:( ADA NA Green Bulb...
its fine to use on its own but with it being a point source of light it will only spread so far to the left and right. I think 90cm width tank is the max for my solar1 mh. If you had a 120cm you'd be looking at putting two over it or using T5's.
pretty sure mark evans put an ADA bulb in one of his non MH lights. send him a pm to check?
Good price on those other bulbs. I wouldn't mind seeing a comparison on one to the ADA na green as mine is overdue for replacement but still going strong.
lol! i wouldnt know which white balance to choose to take that! I love mine, especially at startup when it starts blue then turns white. Tank's gonna be a good un :D
That looks like a very cool light if it works
Specs say "Input Power: AC120V-240V" so "in theory" the PSU should be autoswitching and then puts out 12V to the unit.
I do love the shimmer and shadows you get with point source lighting. Miles ahead of flouescants on that point.
The thing im interested in is has anyone got carpeting plants growing well in a deep tank under LED, eg 45cm+ ? (i know it works great nanos and small tanks) anyone got any...
they are styled very nicely :) I haven't really noticed anything as it replaced the roof lights on that side of the room so they are never turned on which saves 120W towards running it plus the old t5's were 96W.
They say to replace the bulbs at 1 year but I havent done mine yet, will just...
I cant imagine TGM would turn down selling £400 plus LED sets for the sake of a few bulb sales. I thought most people on here would buy bulbs from lampspecs anyway after all the threads on them? Ive not tried them myself but when I compared what I needed to grow HC at ground level on a...
you need something like this - http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B000NJ26X2/ref=pd_lpo_k2_dp_sr_1?pf_rd_p=103612307&pf_rd_s=lpo-top-stripe&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_i=B000QRHAVE&pf_rd_m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&pf_rd_r=1TK18XH9FPW5R9S1M1VS
youll need to work out the correct VA you need as if you get one with...
sorry bumcrumb, i was on holiday when you pm'd and forgot to reply when I got back.
My stand is a custom made by a metal work shop. I knocked up a small technical drawing and they made one up for me from that. The main thing is if you are attaching to the side of a cabinet then leave a 5 or...
i had the same problem andy going from 96W to 150w with mine. As dan has said I raised the level of the light (about 35cm) and upped the co2 and ferts. it all went smoothly and i think i may have doubled up on the water changes for two weeks after to be sure.
my vote gets 1x8 hrs but im afraid i dont know the science behind it! im sure someone will be along soon to confirm or deny
the blue led is something ive always wondered so will be interested if anyone can comment
Re: I want to upgrade my Rio 125 from T8's to T5's, Heat Ris
i ended up doing that too as the legs doo look awful on them! I was going to make a perspex bracket to stop it falling in the tank but never got around to it then replaced it with the solar 1
Re: I want to upgrade my Rio 125 from T8's to T5's, Heat Ris
4x24w on a rio 125 is fine as long as youve got the co2 and ferts to match. It worked really well on my rio but i changed over to a german luminaire. The heat will also be fine as long as theyre sealed as youll get more moisture...
im sooo jealous. one day Il have enough to get one :)
Have you had to mount the ballast outside the cabinet or do the plugs detach so you can get the cable through the tank cab holes?
Hopefully im ok to post this here.
Im nearly there with my new tank and light hanging bracket shown below. The only thing Ive not been able to source is some decent cable clips to attach the cable to the stainless braket. Ideally id like some like the ada ones which are round and clip on the...
cheers both
I had thought about that but looking at it the 90 degree turn will be quite difficult to get the cable through. Im going to have a look to see if I can find any 20mm cable clips like teh ada ones.
I picked this up today. Its a stainless steel light hanger for my 90cm tank which isnt quite here yet but hopefully imminent :)
I got it made at a local engineering shop to kind of replicate an ADA Grand Solar light hanger. Its not quite the same in that its not collapsable as its welded in...
ive been thinking about this for my 90cm when it arrives. would love to upgrade from my 80cm t5 unit as the point source of light looks so cool. If i could afford it id be onto TGM to get one of the solar 1's :D
I think from that post youve won a twin tube unit and you're trying to decide whether to ask for two whites or one white and one pinkish?
Id personally have one white and one pink to get a mix (which ive done on my 60cm). someone with more knowledge than me may be along to poo poo that idea...
brand new and with a choice of tubes apparently. 4 x 24W T5 and 800mm which fits Rio 125 tanks
Quite cheap at £99 delivered as they go for nearly this when second hand but this is the old model.
No link to seller, just saw it on ebay...
probably someone with more knowledg than me will be along in a bit but from what Ive read its best to start off lower then build it up, only thing is im not sure if this applies to low light tanks?
I started my 60cm that im working on at the moment on 5 hrs and have moved it up to 7 once a...
im in the same boat as you with an eqj light as the supplied brackets look a little crap whereas the light is really good. I got some free hanging cables with it so would like to get a hanging bar to attach to the back of the tank eventually. not sure where to get these though?
i meant it more to vito re the luminaire as youve already bought your stuff and I couldnt imagine getting rid before youve even opened the box! the other swaying factor for me was that my rio kit was t8 and i wanted t5 and youve already got the t5. I think that only one extra bulb would be a...
i lived with having two extra tubes attached via tiewraps onto the rio supplied bulbs but in the end it was that much of a pain that I got a 4x24w luminaire off ebay. so much easier to use and you can rest it on the top of the rio so you dont get much light spill if not wanted.
