EI dosing for 14,500 litre aquarium!

Tropica has 5L jerrycans indeed which are very good and not very expensive for a commercial brand!

EI dosing for 14,500 litre aquarium!

Damn, water is expensive over there, here about 0,23 euro per 1000L. So cost is not my point, but mainly the work/time. Off course you can automate a lot, but I would still recommend a more lean method like ADA does.

Haha, that was my first thought, forgot to mention it[emoji12]

EI dosing for 14,500 litre aquarium!

While I got only a tenth of the water you're planning I think I can give you a few tips. First of all (I know people love EI here) but do you really want EI? Lissabon doesn't use it, and this is for a good reason. EI tanks run great as long as everything is kept up, but as soon as something...

    Mixing nutrients together

Do a quick search on this forum or any forum and you'll find 100 threads saying PO4 and Fe can't be mixed. Search a little further and you'll see Tropica makes an all in one fert;)

    Mixing ferts & Carbon

Let me answer this in return of your lenghty post in my thread! You can basically mix everything with carbon. I tried it with my NPK mix and traces and no problems at all. Carbon and traces is even sold in one bottle. The only things that aren't compatible are PO4 and iron (traces). So you...

    Unbalanced planted tank... but why?

You miss at least traces. Ada bright green step 2 or tropica or whatever. I should start there.

Can I does all EI in one go?

As you already said, iron and phosphate don't go well together. You can dose them on the same day (a minute apart is enough in my experience), but you can't mix them. So you always need at least two bottles, for example macro and micro, or phosphate and the rest if it pleases you.

    flourish excel...yes or no?

I think Clive means that the excel is not used as carbon source as I thought (and most companies market), but that it helps plant to use the available CO2. If this is true (which I've no doubt it is, as far as I know you:oops: ) than why does glutaraldehyde make such a difference in aquariums...

    flourish excel...yes or no?

Excel is nothing else than a carbon source as is CO2. When people reach the upper limit of the amount of Co2 fish can tolerate, they can add excel to provide even more carbon but in a different source. People not willing to spent big money on a CO2 kit use excel as primary source for their...

What Ferts (high or lo-tech)do you use? and why?

I use my home made ADA rip-off. Made with dry ferts and profito as traces;)

Can liquid carbon be mixed with EI solutions?

HS Aqua has Floracarbo, which is traces mixed with glut. Easy life also said you can mix easy carbo and profito. Not sure about the NPK and glut...

    Easycarbo enough?

Easy carbo is only like the nitro in a car. Traces (like profito) is the basic thing you need to add. Second you need to make sure your plants have access to N, P and C. There is some N and P in fish food/poop and the C is comming from the easy carbo. You might need to add extra N and P, by NO3...

Using Profito As a Garden Plant fertilizer?

You can use it no problem, but remember your plants need N and P as well. I don't know about the right dosage. I usually use water change water for watering my plants, plants look good. So perhaps the regular adviced dosage is a good starting point. 1 mL per 10L and water with this.

    Unlimited nutrients using E.I.

I think most people know. Everybody knows sunlight on a tank = algae. Most people just want lots of light to make the plants nice and red and pearl. Upping EI to make it work, but overlooking CO2.

    Unlimited nutrients using E.I.

Yes, working at a lfs I know all about it. Most people when they have algae start reading the internet. First thing they always find: too much phosphate and nitrate. Really giving me a headache explaining them all those people are wrong and that they must believe a young fellow like myself...

@ceg: I had eggs all the time with EI, but now I do have fry;)

    Unlimited nutrients using E.I.

pH is important as a rough guideline, but fresh water fish can adapt quite well. Lowering your pH with CO2 is not the kind of pH mentioned in the books, so that is why you often see pH is not important. Fish don't carry a pH meter. But as you know, pH mainly depends on KH. Fish don't notice pH...

    Unlimited nutrients using E.I.

I think it is mostly a mindset. I don't want my aquarium to become a fertilizer pool. If I was just keeping plants, no livestock, no problem, I would go double EI just to make sure everything is sufficient. But I want my fish to feel good as well. Most fish come from low TDS waters and although...

    Unlimited nutrients using E.I.

Reverse the question: Why do you want to add more than unlimited. EI is the max plants can use. By adding EI, you are sure you add enough, why do you want to add more? Does it harm to add more? Yes and no! A little more no problem for fish or plants, 10x EI, no problem for PO4, K, but 10 NO3...
