    What should I choose?

I've used ADA, Dennerle, Tropica and some others. They all lower the KH and pH, the biggest difference is in the amount of nutrients. ADA is by far the most nutrient rich, which also results in the ammonia leaching in the beginning. Tropica is a little less rich but doesn't leach (any notable...

    Best substrate for Dutch tank

No, Amazonia is much lighter, so it will end up on top! So either use it on top, or don't use it at all would be my advice.

    Best substrate for Dutch tank

Basically you can use anything you like! Dutch style is a planting method en has nothing to do with the substrate or fertilization. That being said, fine gravel is most often used, with or without a clay like substrate below it. But I've seen tanks with aqua soil as well.

How to separate aquasoil from powder aquasoil??

Or stainless steel mess. I made some sieves when I was working in a candy factory from mess with a wooden frame. You can get it in all kind of sizes.

    sand without nutrition

As long as you add fertilizer to the water column it doesn't matter fertilizer-wise. One note of warning; too deep a sand layer and it can get anaerobic sooner or later (see winogradsky column). Not something you want to experience, but lots of ways to prevent this from happening...

    Capping ADA Aquasoil

Aquasoil is very light and will end on top again. Best to top it off with some new aquasoil IME.

    what substrate

HC roots more efficiently in sand than in whatever other substrate! The fine grains are perfect for the fine HC roots. But off course it has no nutrients in it so you need to do water column dosing. Fluval/akadama/Colombo, it's all the same regarding ease of rooting. The smaller the grains the...

    Akadama - A cheap substrate

Definitely more aqua soil type, but the light colored version.

    Activated Carbon mixed into substrate

You're right, I mixed up acidity and pH, I'm sorry! As soil acidity increases (pH decreases), more H+ ions are attached to the colloids and push other cations from the colloids and into the soil solution (CEC decreases).

    Aqua soil and medicines

I think I'll just replace the aqua soil to be sure, easier, faster and cheaper!

    Activated Carbon mixed into substrate

Agreed, a little correction: AEC generally will decrease when pH drops and increase when pH rises. CEC generally increases when pH drops and decrease when pH rises;)

    Aqua soil and medicines

Thanks! Lasts only the question: is it possible it's adsorbed by the aqua soil, killing shrimp even after a few large water changes?

    Aqua soil and medicines

I always believed it mainly adsorbed negative ions. But can't seem to find the ingredients in HS Aqua Camacell online, so don't know what's in it till wednesday.

    Activated Carbon mixed into substrate

Tourmaline BC from ADA is just powder of activated carbon. Try looking into that! Main things it does, it traps nutrients and releases it to the plant roots. It is a substrate for bacteria to grow on (apparently they grow better on this than on regular gravel for instance). Not sure the small...

    Aqua soil and medicines

In the lfs I work we use aqua soil in our shrimp tanks. A few weeks ago we had some planaria in there so I removed all shrimp dropped in some de-worming medicine and after all planaria was dead I did a 90% water change. Placed back the shrimps a few days later and most started dying. Tested...

What is the best aquarium sand to go with?

All sand is mainly silica;) But it is silicate where diatoms live off, not silica.

What is the best aquarium sand to go with?

aquaristic.net sells non dusting, inert sand which is quite light colored. I never wash it, just poor it in from above, no problem!

    Osmocote

I used Pokon cones with the same results as osmocote. Can't say for Miracle Grow but I expect it to be the same.
