    Brown Hair Algae\Diatoms?

My gut is that its the new tank scenario i.e your filter hasn't reached maturity and its just diatoms. Water changes and waiting are the way to go.

    Staghorn Algae Issues

Sorry was in a rush earlier, CO2 - defo as discussed Staghorn likes light so i would reduce the light two one tube for a while. Also do away with the one hour break, that will cause problems. Run lights for 7 hrs straight. Andy

    Fluffy , Ugly . . . . Algae !

i suspect its not algae sometimes wood gets a layer of fungus on it when its new. Its harmless it will disappear. You can clean it off but it will re appear in next to no time. Just ignore it for a while. Its something to do with the fact that the wood is still decomposing i think, but could be...

    Staghorn problem

I am afraid you know the answer already! CO2/flow is your problem. Plus your lights are on for a very long period, try dropping the light to 7-8hrs using only two tubes. Get your CO2/flow sorted and remove as much of the Staghorn infested plants etc as you can. Easycarbo will kill the...

    Fluctuating CO2 levels and algae

Hey there! Nice looking scape dude! I think first and foremost your problem is flow and then light. You should be aiming for at least x10 turnover of your tank. On my 180l i am running (2 ehiems (1x1700lph & 1x 750lph) plus a Hydor Powerhead 900lph) If you are pumping in that much CO2 you...

please help identify whats causing my problems

Dont panic, sometimes in new set ups this happens and can be contributed to a non mature filter etc. Just keep doing what your doing and things will improve. Couple of tips though, 1. try to do at least a couple of water changes a week at the beginning, at least until the tank is little...

    a few issues..

Chris is right, when i had staghorn in my kitchen tank, i added more CO2 and easycarbo and upped my water changes. BUT, then you then have to work out whats wrong to keep it away. Only just come in on this, but here is a few things that i looked at. 1. Do you clean your co2 diffusor? ( i did...

Algae Problem or lack of ferts?

:D So i took the advice and dosed the P04 using easylife fosfo (i worked out i needed a 3ml dose) i have done that twice over the last 7-10 days, and the result speak for themselves. I haven't adjusted anything else, apart from the co2 which i increased a slight amount. The leaves have started...

Algae Problem or lack of ferts?

cheers James will up my dose to 3ppm and see how I get on, I will also look at my lights and see what cab be done. Currently running 2 x 24w t5 for 7 hrs daily, not sure I can run just one on my Arcadia luminaire? I can't lift any higher as limited by overhead space in my kitchen thanks!

Algae Problem or lack of ferts?

cheers mark, any ideas on how much po4?
  22. andyh

Algae Problem or lack of ferts?

so I have dosed some po4 using my easylife fosfo. Instructions say dose 10ml per 500l increases po4 concentration by 0.1ppm so I dosed just over 1ml as my tank is 57l to start me off. However it does not state how frequently, I have no idea how reguarly I should dose this! Can any one give me...

Algae Problem or lack of ferts?

Thanks for you comments and defo interesting! I have lots of flow and co2, i am just not sure that its getting to all the low level plants. I am with you on the high light side of things! Nb. By the way i am not against the whole dry ferts thing (before i get mobbed  ) just find that ADA...

Algae Problem or lack of ferts?

Ok, I hear what you are saying (i sense your not an ADA fan  ) and lots of you guys love the Dry powders etc. For me its all about ease. Buy it, couple of pumps easy. I thought ADA was held in high regard? I know its not cheap? So whats my tank lacking then? EDIT: just been chatting...

Hey guys I have a few leaves in my tank which have got a dark green algae on them and my hydrocotyle has some light black alage on. Staghorn Algae Challenge

    Staghorn Algae Challenge

Re: Staghorne Algae Challenge Clive Ref the drop checker, i have increased the CO2 a little but still not convinced its enough. I have also moved the diffuser and Hydor power-head to allow for better distribution. The 'white specs' on the blackground are CO2 bubbles so i am now really happy...

Re: Staghorne Algae Challenge Well i have made the changes suggested i.e increased the C02 bubble rate too 2bps and also started dosing Easycarbo. I am sure the situation is getting worse. here is my HC carpet now being taken over by Stag horne! my only concern is that my CO2 is not getting...

Re: Staghorne Algae Challenge Thanks very much, that single response has just helped me understand the basics i have been trying to get my head round for ages. Staghorn Algae Challenge

Re: Staghorne Algae Challenge Ok, the logic behind the air pump is for two reasons in my mind: 1. I wanted to create the best environment for my critters (fish and shrimps) as well as my plants, doing this in my mind helped eliminate the risk of too much CO2. I can now see that this would of...

    Staghorn Algae Challenge

Re: Staghorne Algae Challenge So i have increased the CO2 to 2bps and started dosing EasyCarbo i will keep an eye and report back. I have also set my solenoid to come on 3 hrs before the lighting to see if i can get the drop checker to change colour earlier.

    Staghorn Algae Challenge

Re: Staghorne Algae Challenge Good Point, Yes it would seem that way, i will slowly increase my CO2. I am beginning to think that having my air pump running all night contributes to the reduction of CO2. Maybe I should shorten the period its on. I took my inspiration on this from Armano and...

    Help with identifying algae

Well for £100/£150 you could get an ideal set up. If you look in the thread for CO2 and how to set up a system. This will give you a good idea of where to start. For a tank your size I would suggest a 2kg Fire Extinguisher (FE) type set-up as a minimum. If you post in there somebody will give...
