Ermm.... it did in my tank.... before I provided an environment not suitable to algae.

The plants will be loving it as a source of CO2. Try spot dosing, then it will kill the algae, just be careful with the concentration so close to the plants.

Are you spot dosing? You need to turn the filter / air off. Put 1ml carbo in the syringe mixed with 1ml tank water and squirt directly onto the algae and leave it for a few mins before turning filter / air back on - this is so the carbo stays around the affected area for a bit. Re hair algae...

I'm no expert, but it looks like you have about 4WPG of light, which is way high! I'd remove one light tube (if you can), reduce light period to around 7 hours and start adding fertilizer.

About a month ago, I extended the spray bar and positioned it along the back of the tank, spraying forward. Great in theory, but now the water is sprayed from at least 3 times as many holes as before, so the actual flow pressure is significantly reduced. This has led to less water circulation...

May be phscological, but 24hrs after the filter clean, I got home last night & there seemed to be less staghorn! Filter cleaning was definately the best solution in my other tank. So how often should I clean the external filter? - am thinking monthly. Rather than do all suggestions at once...

Think the CO2 has been identified as being low. What is the light issu? - too much wattage? Currently on for approx 8 hours with 1 hour break in the middle.

Ferts include Nitrogen, Potassium and Phosphorus. Will start to up the easycarbo slightly. Re spraybar - yes. I'm planning on putting it along the back, just need to get a couple of extensions for it - this weekend hopefully. Cheers

Not sure of the dose, but dose directly on the affected area with a syringe when doing it.
