vallis is the ultimate low tech plant it'll grow in anything. I've even got it growin in a 2x1x1 fry tank with no light at all and just gravel for substrate with leafs almost 1m long now :) takes it a few weeks to get rooted/settled then it spreads like a weed

macro algae is the thing but they feed purely on waste from livestock so if you're loading up heavily on the macro and using liverock you'll actually need very little in way of filtration as the bulk of the filtration will actually come from the macro and rock instead. perhaps just a little HOB...

vallis is probably just dying back while its settling in once it takes root though its a weed. only thing though is it doesn't like liquid carbon

I have that it takes a while to settle in but once its settled it puts out new leafs pretty quickly from shoot to fullsized leaf in under 24h its pretty awesome. I split mine in half the other week and both halfs seem to be doing good too

yes flow should be fine volume wise but don't have them at opposite ends pointing towards each other as that will create head to head flow and deadspots. move the powerhead to the same side as the outlet and perhaps have it pointing to the middle front of the glass to create a circular flow...

i'd be tempted to go with ceg's bad co2 and flow perhaps

I was going to suggest plec as thats exactly how my munched on leafs look however after going through her introduction post she didn't mention any plecs in the tank so kinda kept my mouth shut :)

if its refillable then look for the brewery/pub supplies OR welding supplies (there's alot of these in your area) both will be able to refill it with pure co2 for you somewhere in the £10 - £20 region

is it a refillable cylinder? why not just change to an FE if its not? if it is refillable look up brewery supplies they should be able to refill for you. if you're stuck using non refillable cylinders the length of time this post has been up you could have ordered new ones on tinterweb and it...

if your tank volume is over 200l its cheaper to use co2 than liquid carbon of any description (not the answer to your direct question but possibly useful)

think its just a build up of dust and debris from the substrate I have it in my little tank too especially after disturbing the substrate. I tend to vacum the plant leafs as i'm siphoning out the water for the change and it goes away again until I decide to disturb the substrate again

lots of regular water changes, wipe the leafs on water change until it stabalises and you can stick some clean up crew in there then just gotta wait for it to settle down

what size tank are you using? how heavily planted? stocked with fish if so what/how many? do you have a clean up crew in there to keep stuff clean?

I don't really want to go the soil route due to being pleco heavy and some of them are sensitive. so not only do they disturb the substrate like nuts but any dip to acidic will cause some of them to pop their clogs which is an expensive loss. Mark I'm only going to head for mostly stems anyway...

yeah i've given up on the blyxa now but my hairgrass seems to have finally taken root and is starting to grow now so i'm happy and my crypts are going a little crazy going to have to split them down again / start trimming so its all good

not needed for vallis. just take some scissors and trim them down I do mine once a month or so in my low tech tank it still grows like a nutter. for the off shoots that spread around the tank just cut through the tendril running from the parent plant to the shoot then you can replant the shoot...

no injected co2 in any of the tanks. I did think lighting at first but this isn't the low light tank or the high light tank its the middle light tank its doing fine in the other 2. I've tried doubling up the ei dosing but too soon to tell if its working or not

Delivery can take upto 2 weeks depending on what your ordered. I've had some stuff from them in the past and all arrived fine. If you're unsure give them a ring check on the status of your order.
