this is interesting, you saying its more likely to happen with low-tech tanks? I have always done water changes with lights on. I never really thought about this? But I have never experienced this problem in 2 years. is there something Im doing that counteracts this?

its so much work to go through everything I have ever done correcting all the mistakes... The best thing for me to do is re-do the journals with photos at the end. Such a head ache it has put me off big time :( oh well lol

When u say aerating what do u mean? Air pump?? If so I don't think it makes a slight bit of difference to plant growth at all because the plants don't benefit or suffer from anything when lights are off. I think it's more to do with pushing the co2 out from the tank to make it more comfortable...

UPDATE photos of an amano shrimp I got. I asked for the biggest they could give me and got two for £5.00 so not too bad. This one seems to be very red though.. maybe it will clear up after time. I managed to go to the LFS and grab some live blood worm and they seem to be lapping it up :) now...

My thoughts too. Any soil u put in whilst the tank is full will cause complete chaos but if your not comfortable with just keeping your fish in a large bucket for 15 mins then I guess your left with no choice pal. Try and take out as much as u can would be my advice :-) Sent from my GT-I9100...

Yes I have snails breeding in there as we speak but to be honest their not to bothered about the snails at all.. Nor the frozen food as it falls to the floor. When my feeder Cone arrives this should make feeding more fun :-)

I know it's a risk but why have plants at all? The only thing that appeals to me at that size would be Cuba.. But I guess dosing carbonated water in a 200mm cube would work perfectly well indeed.. What you recon? You wouldn't need to bother with gas and you could still pull off Cuba. I got heaps...
