    doing away with filters.

Wow! But I suppose if you think about it, in a well established planted tank, there must be copious amounts of good bacteria in the substrate, and if you have enough flow (circulation pumps) then the bacteria ridden substrate will get enough oxygen to survive much the same way as the bacteria in...

    doing away with filters.

Well I got a Hydor 2 pump..... awesome. A little bit of staghorn which was starting to come back due to unstable Co2 went within a day!! Everything is waving gently and the fish love it.

    My tanks just over 200l

    doing away with filters.

They are a bit rank but all you'd really see in my tank is the lead. Just not sure about what single external filter would be enough to circulate in my 4ft. Was looking at a Superfish 4sp Pro filter but I dont think thats enough flow, and all the eheim filter codes give me a headache.

    doing away with filters.

This thread is right up my alley  Anyway, I've been looking into a Hydor for my 120cm too. I have just a Fluval 405 external filter and it just isn't enough. Reckon the 3 circulation pump. I believe this would be fine for a 4 ft planted set up.

    Filter recommendation for 3ft tank

I can't say anything wrong with Fluval 405 on a 3 ft tank. But like Tom said, change the pipework, it's rank!!! :(

    Super flow!

Thats what I mean. There will be a lot of flow, but the plant mass will create more than enough areas for them to settle... Just like a river bank.

    Super flow!

When I first started reading about 20x+ turnover in tanks I thought it was a bit much, but if you think about it, the more the merrier really. Most fish we kep would benefit greatly from lost of flow (river anyone??) and we all know how good turnover helps combat cyanobacteria. Also, I think...

    Super flow!

Really like the sound of the Supefish external. Was thinking of adding one to my 120cm along with a Fluval 405. So cheap too!!

    External advice for a 24"x15"x12"

Can't imagine my 405 in my little 24" tank. I guess with a lot of media and maybe an external heater along the out take line would bring down the turnover a bit. I've got a Fluval 205 on my same size tank and it turns over the tank just fine.

125 ltr tank needs bigger filter

B&Q for me then. Cheers guys.

125 ltr tank needs bigger filter

Can't argue with with that I suppose. Bit ugly but I guess its better than the pond hosing from Fluval.

125 ltr tank needs bigger filter

So the 16mm tubes good? I was checking TFF earlier and someone said about using jubilee clips? This was for connecting a Hydor heater in line with a Fluval vincenza tank, where they have inlet and outlet under the tank

125 ltr tank needs bigger filter

Oh yeah!! I'll have to check that thread out again, then maybe go and pester the man... unless he peeks in on this. :) Cum to think of it, he probably only needed reducers to fit his glassware. Not my cup of tea at the moment, so I could just see what size clear hosing the good Mr. Farmer used...

125 ltr tank needs bigger filter

Updates? Its a beast. Same old Fluval stuff really, good locking, no leaks around o ring. I angled the output over to the far corner where the co2 diffuser was and it swept the mist everywhere nicely. It really pumped the water around my 80cm tank, the tenelus on the foreground looked like it...

125 ltr tank needs bigger filter

Well my 405 is goin on my 4 ft tank soon and I'm leaving the back of it clear so I'll be seeing the hosing. Do any of you think I'd be able to use the existing Fluval tube connectors on clear hosing? Think the 16mm clear tubing from AE might work. Anyone had any experience doing this with a Fluval?

    Circulation??

Sorry, yeah thats what I meant, the KH doesn't really matter. Its the acidity that it seems to like. In my experience anyway.. mine only took off once my water lowered in pH. Sure theres peeps out there that have had great success with it in more alkaline water. Just my experience.

    Circulation??

No chance on that I'm afraid mick. Might be getting rid of some java fern 'narrow' though. Since I've been doing EI I've been getting about 6 new plantlets from the leaves every week!! Going to let them grow out a bit and then see what I can use, anything left over will be going in the swap/sell...

    Circulation??

Just throw a load of microsorum and bolbitis on wood. :D Then the UG filter won't harm them, plus they both look awesome with Discus... especially 21!!!

125 ltr tank needs bigger filter

Well its done now. Just received a Fluval 405, and its a monster!! Got it for a bit of a bargain from RapidAquatics on ebay. All seems ok but the top a a son of a gun to seal up. Made a huge school boy error and forgot to clean it out before changing over so as i turned it on, a plume of cloudy...

125 ltr tank needs bigger filter

Yeah I like my Fluval, although I feel you need to change the hosing. The ribbed hosing needs regular cleaning. Eheim 2028 http://www.1st4aquatics.com/eheim-2028-with-sub-pro-media-1309-p.asp]here? For a 600ltr tank?!! Seems a bit much, even by George Farmers standards doesn't it? :D...

125 ltr tank needs bigger filter

Hi all. Been contemplating what filter will better suit my 27gal tank. Right now its got a Fluval 205 external on it and I know its just not enough grunt to get the water flowing enough. Was looking to upgrade to a Fluval 305 or even 405 but I always hear about Eheim's being very good, just so...
