Tadpole snail then is it? Harmless?

Hello after helping my GF set up a new tank we have found some strange looking snails that must of come in with some plants. What are they and are they worth keeping?

Great thanks for all the advice, for the time being I have used a bit of netting from my partners fancy dress tutu, seems to be doing the trick, just a shame that you spend so much money on glassware and then have to modify it.

Bought a load of RCS a few weeks ago and they have been doing great, go about 3 so far with eggs and looks like more are on there way, so hoping this is a good sign of a healthy tank... Today when cleaning the tank out I noticed that one of them had been sucked on to the inlet of the filter...

Well the shrimp I bought of ebay recently came in a fish bag in a cardboard box with shredded newspaper around, via first class, any they were all fine, no casualties. Yes shrimp looks amazing compared to my RCS, so does this mean all the young should be as good quality??? I am going to pick up...

will be fine just let it grow and see what type it is, if it has an elongated shell chances are it will be a Malaysian trumpets snail, but really it could be anything and only time will tell.

And just noticed another one with eggs, and strangely a 3rd with only 1 egg, can't work out if she has stolen one or just dropped them all. any how, I imagine I will have have to start selling them soon :wink:

I have just got a load of ramshorn snails and have found them to be effective although the ones of a certain size tend to dig a little where the plants havent fully established, I have a few extra I could send you for a small price although I am not around for a week or so from the end of today.

Got my shrimp today and they are looking good, got about 15 for the price of 10 (80p each) very impressed. I did have a Hydor Nano powerhead running in the tank but I have switched it off incase any shrimp get sucked in to it and blended, now I am to scared to turn it on. Does anyone have any...

Thats interesting, so when they can they adapt their colour to suite, but when the would otherwise stand out against the black gravel, they make themselves red to presumably look dangerous towards predators. Thanks for all the info guys :)

Good to know I'm not the most patient of souls, regarding shrimp numbers I guessing that depends on how many predators are hunting them. What is the procedure for young hatchlings, do you put them in a hatchery or do they get by in a well planted tank?

Just bought 12 cherry shrimp from ebay but am under the impression that they are currently quite small, they are described as young adults. Any ideas how long shrimps take to grow up from babys to full breading maturity, do they change in colour?
