Airstone Recommendation?

Would anyone recommend a particular airstone for very fine air bubbles?

I've heard wood is decent for this. I'm after one for a Fluval Edge 23L - it has a glass top so the bubbles would be trapped under the glass, unless the airstone is placed under the access hole (so must be smaller than 15cm).

There are plenty on eBay however the bubbles seem quite large.

I have a wooden block, I don't think it's any better than a normal airstone.

However, following Darrels advice I have ordered a venturi style diffuser. It's not arrived yet so I can't say if it's better than wood but I expect it to be.

Lime wood does gives you fine bubbles. Probably the best would be an EPDM diffuser <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fine_bubble_diffusers>, but I don't know if they make small sized ones.

As "sWozzAres" suggests I do like the Eheim venturi outlet, these produce fine bubbles with a long residence time in the water column.

Apart from safety, is there any reason you can't use an oxygen gas bottle and fire (no pun intended) it through a CO2 diffuser?

Lime wood diffusers work well but need regular replacement as they seem to get blocked.
