All I know is the planted / aquascaping scene in the states is absolutely tragic compared to uk and some other European countries. I am always so jealous of the stores over there. We have nothing like that here, and anything close is crazy cost. Defiantly more refers here than planted like @MichaelJ said. I believe this is because Americans like bombast and flashy stuff like copper banded butterflies and zoas and don't care much for zen, balance, sustainability, tranquility. Some of these reef tanks are truly amazing, but kinda strike me as a mish-mash of brightly contrasting colors... i don't suppose you'd ever see a biotype reef tank lol. Sorry for the negativity of this comment, i just jealous of you guys!

Your not wrong, the marine trade in the US is massive compared to the UK, Asia/Japan also has a good marine trade, as with everything the trade follows the money.

I also agree with you on the look of a lot of tanks, they look like a sweet shop or something with neatly lined up corals, etc, not the look I would try and go for. There are people who try and do more natural looking tanks, but you have to remember most corals reef are just swathes of brown 🙂
