Most of the real small orchids need pretty high humidity to grow very well. I have a glass top on this setup to cover most of the top and keep the air humid inside. Another group of plants that can do very well mounted to wood and with normal household humidity levels are many of the Tillandsia air plants. Air plants are easy to grow if you give them bright light with good air circulation and they have a wide variety of foliage colors and textures as well as pretty blooms.
 
It doesn't look much different, but the plants are growing and slowly covering the long-fibre sphagnum on the branch. I am not going to think about fish or other additions for a couple more months still.
