External heating + RO

Hi all,

I'm looking for an alternative to an internal heater for my upcoming set-up. I was just wondering what the general view on inline heaters is, I've never used one before and wondered how much they affect the flow rate as I've heard it can almost half it in some cases. If this is sometimes true, would people to prefer a thermo filter such as the Eheim range as I will need a new external filter anyway?

Also I'm planning to use RO water, but being on a water meter a ratio of 4:1 waste to filtered water doesn't sound great. Are there any particularly efficient brands/methods. Or do most find it more economically viable to buy it from their LFS?

Advice would be great.

Cheers
Dan

Im currently using a hydor eth 200w external heater on a eheim 2213 classic filter and from what i can see, there isnt really any noticeable reduce in flow. Regarding ro water, most lfs sell them at £1 a gallon (4.34 litres).
